What would you Choose?

By definition, a survival knife is the knife you are carrying when you need it. That being said and assuming you are allowed to carry a fixed blade, what would you chose? I am thinking about a small to medium size knife, (3” to 5” blade) not necessarily for self defense, but to handle what ever might be required in an adverse situation. Comfortable enough to carry daily in a suburban/rural environment. One which you could carry discreetly so as not to attract to much attention, yet stout enough give you the confidence that it won’t break or bend if you need to use it in a somewhat abusing situation. Any and all thoughts would be appreciated.

The first is anything by Trace Rinaldi. This is the Spook. It can be seen a bit better at www.thrblades.com

And of course the becker line will hold up to "whatever".

This is going to be a cool thread. I have some others but, I only have time for these two.

The Bog Dog I would feel comfy with also.

I have a cold steel srk and a sog field pup both in my bug out bag either one would do but the srk is able to do about anything a knife can do.

The SRK was one of my choices as well. The trouble is I would rather have at least a six inch blade.

There's a lot of good choices to go with but I would want my Geno Denning Big Boy.

3/16" stock so it's thick enough for abuse and thin enough to be an efficient cutter. Green linen Micarta makes an awesome grip wet or dry. ATS-34 holds a good edge, moderately rust resistant and is easily sharpened in the field. Big grip area makes it easy to work with gloves on. Enough belly for skinning but enough point to be efficient.

If I had the option I would pair it with a nice pocket folder and be good to go.

Becker BK11 Necker. Small enough to carry with you all the time and not attract attention and only $30. Good luck with your search!

I have that little necker and I must say it is not a bad little knife. The handle is a bit short but, for what I am useing it for it's ok.

Hmmmm, Becker companion or Bark River Northstar. There are lots of choices but I think I would go with one of these, probably the NS would be my first choice w/G10 or micarta handles

I would say the JKM-1 from HI. I'm in the process of replacing the short horn scales with full length wood scales for a better grip. But even as it comes it's a sound little knife. 8" OAL, 3.75" blade, about .20 thick, zone hardened carbon steel. Not a cutter like an Opinel but stout enough to handle whatever comes up.

busse badger attack, or strider mfs. Both are outstanding and fill the bill for all requirements......and they're cool too...Jim ;)

Well, between my Small Sebbie and my Graham Brothers EDC (Wharn blade) I could handle most things that came by. Would not be chopping down very many trees, but they make a great EDC in an urban environment.

I like how djolney thinks, I'd vote a Swamp Rat of some kind.

The knife you are carrying when you need it is what I call EDC, whereas a knife that's used to survive is a survival knife. They could easily be interchanged, though. A small, sharp hatchet would do well too, you could cut and chop and everything. .
