Just got my WC Star-Tac today (first CRK) but I'm really confused. The birth date is Apr. 30, 2013 and it has the large pivot. Is that right or has a mistake been made? From Wilson's website the pic showed the smaller pivot which I believe is the latest model and that's what I supposed I had ordered. The large pivot model is older...right?

What do you suggest?

From my experience that is correct. My Wilson Star-Tac is from September and has the newer pivot. Honestly, call them up and explain the situation. I'm sure they will send you out a different one (if they are In stock).

I suppose it's not impossible that there were a few knives at the back end of the switch over that late on. If you don't like it or have any concerns contact the seller and send it back for a swap. :)

Not much else you can do but call for a swap as others have said if you don't like it. Personally I would feel lucky as I much prefer the older style pivot over the new. In any case, either will serve you just as well as the other.

Interesting, you just got delivered a BNIB knife that some consider their grail. It may be worth more than you paid for it. I'd think on it a bit before you use it.

Not sure about a grail but I too put more value on having features that have been discontinued particularly the umnum pivot. I only have one umnum and it is a first edition old school version not even an idaho made stamp on it.

That's a very lucky find.
Although the strength of the two pivot styles has been beaten to death here on various threads I'm still one of the guys that thinks that the original style of pivot is superior to the newer style when used on an Umnumzaan since it has no stop pin to lend support, like on the 25.
I also think that it looks better.

Obviously my answer is to rejoice, jump up and down in sheer happiness and either put it in your pocket or sell it for enough to cover your expenses to one of the many people that have posted in the want to buy section looking for that exact knife.

Good luck with your decision.

Sounds like you got lucky! Maybe not what you were expecting but you got something that most on here prefer over what you ordered. I would say CONGRATULATIONS!

I ordered one from them them on January 14th and mine was born on September 18th. I would suspect the one you got was just older stock that was sitting behind the newer ones.

From me there is one more vote for keeping it.
You had luck to get the old one.
Where are the pics? ;-)

You are very lucky, as others have said! If you really don't care for it you can send it back or simply trade it right here in no time.

I would:
1. Write to the shop and wait for an answer
2. Print the answer and put it in the knife box
3. Put box and knife in a drawer, in a couple of year it will become interesting for collection purposes;)
4. Buy another one with new pivot if you prefer it and use it

P.S.
All of you that would buy it (and I am among you) do not hate me:D

Welcome to the crazy convoluted world of CRK enthusiasts! The truth is that ANY of these knives will more than exceed all of our expectations….

Oh man so many suggestions on what to do. Keep it, sell it, call the seller, write them a letter.....to heck with all that work send it to me and I will handle all that work for you :-) What a great grab, I had on several years ago and still go DAMN when I think about it. It does sound like something that will draw some attention if you decide to sell. Like Kidcongo said "put is away for a while and think on it". And what a way to start out your CRK experience, the old Umnumzaan was my first also. Once again great grab!!
