I called Wilson Combat today to find out why I had been sent the older large pivot Star-Tac instead of the newer one I thought I had ordered from their website showing the new smaller pivot on the order page. On a return call back by Wilson, I was told they have a number of left handed new Star-Tacs in stock and somehow I must have been shipped the last one of the older models.
After my previous post, many of you stated your preference for the older larger pivot model so I have chosen to keep it with a little nervousness due to the fact that I'm not a collector and this knife could demand a premium price in the future. I don't care about the future price and I am a gentle user.

I was really hoping that I could be led from my confusion of receiving a different knife than expected and I thank you all for doing just that.

Great decision to keep and use that gorgeous knife! I'm really happy for you, though I bet you broke a few hearts on this forum when you decided to keep it. Clearly it was meant to be! Use it in good health.

I KNEW IT!! ITS A LEFTIE!! (if you recall my first question in the original thread was is it a leftie?) :D That explains the early features on such a late knife!! I had one with a Birth Date of May 30 2013. The left handed models sell much slower than the right hand versions so they were assembled much later after the scales had already been machined for the large pivot. Great score and the right (no pun intended) decision!!
All the best, Dave

Thanks for the insight Dave. Makes sense. I couldn't see the logic because I was looking for a definitive timeline on the transitions between pivots/lbs relating to "birth dates" but could find no information. Seems like "in flux" would be more accurate. I can relax now.
Btw, nice pics.

A good choice well made, I would say. I probably prefer the older pivot as it suits the overall look and of course original design of the Umnumzaan. :)

Nice score you got there!

I wonder if I can train myself to be left handled? The I too can hopefully score some of these older pieces...

Good choice on keeping it. Put it to good use and don't worry about the value of it down the road. It will have a special meaning by that point being your first.
