What would you do...

My paramilitary 2 (first and only spydie) arrived a couple days ago and needless to say I love it. This is really my only great folder, I've got a couple others but none that compare. So my dilema is this....the knife came with the clip in a tip down carry, and when I was changing it to tip up I came to realize one of the screw hole threads was either not there or somehow stripped and the screw wouldn't stay put. So what would you do? Would you send the knife back and go without for a week or two to get it fixed, or just chalk it up and use the knife as is because its really not that big of a deal and the 2 screws will work just fine, or perhaps just learn to like another style of carry.
Silly question I know but just thought I'd get some feedback

Well, there's three screws for a reson. So, for peace of mind and reducing the chance of losing it, send it in for repairs. Better to be without it for a while as opposed to losing it. Always carry the tip in the position you're the most confident in

Stripped screw-holes in G10 are very common, as folks tend to put too much force into tightening them down.
I would send it in; get it fixed. Next time, tighten to "firm," then that's good.
BTW, you have one of the finest folders ever to arrive on this planet.

Yes sir. Get it repaired.
The best knife is ... The one you have on you because clip stayed secured and therefore the knife remained secured in pocket.

In regards to the PM2 that is completely inaccurate. The G-10 isn't threaded. They actually screw into the nested liners underneath the G-10.

To answer the op though, you should absolutely send it back. Either to the retailer for replacement (might be a quicker turnaround) or to Spyderco warranty service (could take awhile since it's just after the holidays). You spent the for a nicer knife. You should get your money's worth, and not a faulty product.

if youre pretty set in stone about the way you wear your pocket clip, jb weld always works :p

I would not use jb weld. If you were going to go this route I would get some loctite or epoxy and coat the threads and screw it in and wipe the excess, if any. You could send it in but personally I don't think I would. I'd live with it, or do the epoxy thing. Not really necessary to spend 2 weeks for.

U have the options mentioned above which are fine or u can carry it tip down for a week n see if u can.live with it/learn to love it. Also u can take it apart n really see if it's stripped or just maybe they drilled a bigger hole.in which case get a screw that will work there. Good luck

Personally, I would not send it in for that because it's fairly easy to fix on your own, as long as your comfortable with epoxy. Go lightly with it, don't make a mess and it will turn out perfect!

First make sure it is not the screw that is stripped. Don't epoxy it. That is an almost permanent solution. Say in the future you want to change pocket clips? What if the clip breaks? What if you want a deep carry clip? I have a knife with an epoxied clip and cannot get it out. The head of the torx will strip.

I would either ask the dealer for a replacement or send it into spyderco.

This.

Have you tried rotating the screws? I've had a few knives where only one certain arrangement of screws seemed to work. If all three of the screws don't fit properly in the hole, then send it in if it bothers you.

I have used a little bit of the gel type super glue on a stripped screw and it held fine. Especially if the other two are holding, it should be fine. Just put a dab on the screw and put it in.

Okay, NORTHERNSOUTHPAW....I stand corrected.

Your statement..."In regards to the PM2 that is completely inaccurate" ...seems only Partially accurate. The rest of my post is correct.
It's the nested liners UNDER the G10 that gets stripped. Okay, I got that.
Cheers!

I've had similar issues where the screw hole is either stripped or not tapped correctly. I used Blue Loctite on the threads and it held quite nicely. do not use red loctite as that will be permanent. Use the blue which is removable if you ever want to get that screw out in the future.

Send it back, get a refund and order from another retailer. It's probably already been returned a time or two.....

I wouldn't make a glue repair on a new knife any more than I'd make a Bondo repair on a newly delivered car. HOW much did you pay for that knife?

Sorry Sonnydaze. I do sound like an a-hole there. It was like 3:00 a.m. & I couldn't sleep.
Lesson learned. Don't post when only half conscious.

Hey NorthernSouthpaw, no worries. It was late when I posted also. Heck, I can write dumb stuff like that all day long.
As that is perhaps my all-time favorite folder... one would think I would have remembered. Certainly, my favorite lock.

I AM glad that you corrected me; that's most important. There are also other readers that need to know the truth.
Take care, friend; we're good.
Don aka Sonnydaze
