Okay. I work with a bunch of great guys. They love technology and gear, everybody carries a knife (Infidel, CRKT M16, and a few other benchmades), so anywho. I was talking with my Boss tonight working on a couple of projects. He mentioned he would get me a knife of my choice if I got a project done by the end of the year. (Its been carrying on for a few years now) So, my question...I already have my list down to Sebenza 21, Strider SMF, Microtech Halo V.....But those are just unicorns to me. What are a few good choices? Sub $300, decent steel. Prefer 5 oz or less, no combo edges, no liner locks. Nothing in d2 either. I'm looking for a hard-use edc. Im not use to this many choices.

Well, none of those are under $300. Have you looked at the Zero Tolerance line?

Of course, if you can get up around $400...the Sebenza would be the choice.

The knives you mentioned cost well over $300. But, if you're boss is willing to increase his budget, then of the three you mentioned I would go with a Sebenza 21 or better yet the Sebenza 25. However, for under $300 bucks you should take a look at a couple of Zero Tolerance knives like the 0550 or 0560.

Step 1 - get the project done by Dec 31st

Step 2 - tell him what knife he's buying you

Get a sebenza (large)1model 25. The new model 25 has a 0.140" blade thickness, which is thicker than the more traditional blade thickness of 0.125". You don't need the increased thickness for general EDC. If you want the heavier-duty capability, then fine. My opinion, I've had both. I sold my model 25; still have earlier (thinner-bladed) models. I also love the Umnumzaan for its rather tactical look, even though its blade is 0.140". I'm a very casual user; I don't need the thicker blade of the Zaan; I just enjoy the blade design.
You can find new model 21's easily enough on the market.

The project is going to be easy to get done. The other guy on the otherside is getting something from his boss if he meets a deadline too, its a mutual thing. He never said a budget actually, so I might be able to get away with a sebbie or strider.

I own both a Sebenza 21 and Strider SNG. I like them both for different reasons, but if I had to choose one over the other I would definitely choose the Sebenza. The quality, construction and fit/finish are flawless. The Strider is overbuilt and feels great in the hand, but it feels more like a $200 knife compared to a Sebenza.

I agree that sebenzas feel like 400 dollar knives, and striders feel around 300 (think zt plus a little something)... But d argue that striders warranty is worth at least the 100 dollar difference.

If you are really interested in folding knives and have never had a Sebenza it should be at the top of your list!

Well, I think I can get either the Srider or Sebbie. He looked at the Microtech also and said he doesn't think he can get that one, I believe auto's are "illegal" in GA and we can't order them. I'll definitely choose the sebbie though, I've been eyeballing them all day.
