What would you like in a new CRK "adventure" knife?

I took the survey in this thread: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...Knives-(CRK)-Have-input-in-the-next-CRK-knife!

Go take the survey to see details, I may be misremembering parts. It claims there may be interest for making (possibly) three new knives:

  • An outdoorsy "adventure" folder (3.25"-3.65")
  • An outdoorsy "adventure" fixed blade (4.5"-5.5")
  • A military fixed blade

I have wanted an outdoor, woods-bumming CRK for a while now. Some of the OPK line would have been great, but they're mostly collector's items now. The Nyala is too skinning-oriented for me, and the others too military.

I'd love to see a 4.5", drop point, large hollow grind, comfortable, woods knife. Not a "bushcraft" style scandi with no guard. Something more like a larger Loveless drop point hunter or a knife similar to what Survive! is doing. Stainless; scales removable to clean thoroughly; nice swells for comfort. A ferro rod notch.

I'd love to hear what woodsy denizens on the CRK forum would like to see in a blade like that. Any specific features? The market for bushcrafty knives is hot right now, and CRK could make a big splash.

It is a decent idea. I'm sure I have nothing to worry about, but I just hope they keep it gimmick- free. Instead of a fire starter, use a high carbon steel. Instead of a mirror scale, create a sheath that holds one.

I did say bring back the annual and the regular, but my money says either one is more than a long shot.

I also cringed at those ideas. This shouldn't be something that a guy like Bear Grylls would endorse on a fake survival show. CRK didn't put tiny worthless compasses on the caps of the OPK line, so I hope they don't resort to gimmickry now.

Exactly. I wrote in the survey - let's keep this simple. Look at what Survive and others are doing. Square the spine or make a notch for a firesteel on a 5.5 inch blade in a premium steel and you've got my money.

Not sure about a new folder, my micarata inlaid large '21 has been a phenomenal knife for everything, including outdoors use.

It would be nice to have an EDC/dayhiking/outdoorsy fixed blade from CRK, there's a huge jump in size from the Nyala/Professional Soldier to the Green Beret/Pacific. As always, whatever they come out with will work for some and not for others due to different expectations, needs, hand size, carry preference, etc.

I would love a 4-5" fixed blade with contoured micarta inlaid into the handle like they do on the folders. Screws in handle scales attract dirt/blood/whatever.

Another +1

No ferro rod notches, squared spines or rusty steel for me, please. I keep a $2 'striker' tied to my ferro rod, it's light and thin and works very well so I don't need to use a knife as anything other than a knife.

A serration free green beret 5.5. BAM! Just got this wrapped up.

A medium 21 with an Zaan thumbstud and it would be wrap me up I'm done! Totally off topic sorry.

I told them same exact thing...keep it simple. Bring back Annual type knives, special/limited editions, etc...stay away from the gimmicks

I suggested either a slightly longer skeletonized knife or a simple 5 inch knife that is lightweight.

My main points were:

-Classy and simple. No gimmicks.

-Quality and design over cost savings. I'd rather pay more for a better knife.

-Rounded edges BUT one flat edge to strike a ferrocerium rod.

-Drop point with sturdy tip design

-Thin

-Stainless.

-Cutting performance over "prying" ability.

-Molded kydex sheath

-In the style of previous models; grey gunkote and black canvas micarta.

I'd just like a Chris Reeve that could compete with the Benchmade Nimravus, the old Gerber Yari, the Winkler Belt Knife etc....

Something you can strap to a vest or a backpack that is around 8 oz.

This is a great way to sum up what I'm after.

Honestly, something like the Professional Soldier, with a longer handle so it works while wearing gloves, would be perfect for me. Include the option to buy contoured micarta scales and a kydex sheath that fits the new handles and make even more moneys.

Yea, I think we're all in agreement that one of the best things about CRK is the lack of gimmicks. I'm in the market for a 5 inch camp knife so this could be perfect.

Factory scales for the professional soldier series would be great. That would get me to buy, especially if they were contoured like the Harsey designed CRKs.

I think I'll pass on this survey, as I'm clearly not the target customer. "Outdoorsy" is not my thing, unless sand and saltwater are involved, and I doubt CRK will be making a knife in H1 steel.
