Emerson CQC15 CQC13 CQC11

OR

MOD Mark I, II or ATFK

Just curious...maybe compare features in your answer...

Are the Emersons spear points? If not, neither. I like his spear point folders, but never owned one. Saw an Emerson Commander at the recent CBKC meeting, nice knife.

I like my 11, and the "wave" is a nice option. The 11 carries well and is a workhorse, holds a great edge too. Just enough recurve, not too much so it's not a hassle to sharpen. Great handle ergos, great reach, quick in the hand. I have other Emerson's, but the 11 usually gets the call.

cqc13 for everday
cqc15 is kinda mall ninjaish but i still like to carry it occasionally
cqc11 just seems a bit big for edc

Is my everyday carry, B09 with ironwood handles, But I keep one of Richard_J's Single bevel knives in my desk drawer for crowd control. :D

hmm, I was thinkin of pickin up one of the CQC's, Just decidin which one, possibly the commander...what's the most practical design?

I got to handle a CQC 13 at a gun show and really liked the size. On the Web it always looks huge, but it's not too big and seems more suitable as an EDC than the other models you list.

I have a mini commander and while I do like it, in retrospect I should have gotten the full sized model or the 13 instead.

the MOD knives are excellent knives they are just a little on the gimmicky side for me. The hornet was the favorite of the MODs I have owned. I could not get the mark 1 sharp enough. I really like the blackhawk crucible though. Emersons are excellent knives I just dont like the edge on them. Also im not a big 154 cm fan.

I too have a Hornet, bought in 2000 and rarely carried or used. What's the general opinion on that knife?

ATFK is pretty cool. I also like the cqc-13. I'd go with one of those, depending on what size you're more coomfortable with. I had a 13 and love the design. Your hand wont be slipping off of it for sure (just about all emersons have very secure handles though). The wave is nice to have, I'd give it a try if you haven't yet. I also like the way the ATFK feels in the hand. I have no experience with the button lock though, but haven't heard too many bad things. It is a significantly smaller knife than any of the Emersons you've listed. The smaller mark is also a cool knife. I once played with one for a bit. Fits the hand surprisingly well considering the looks of it. It too had a button lock. The smaller mark is a bit bigger than the atfk iirc, yet a little smaller than those emersons. I think it is tip down while you have an option with the atfk. The larger mark is on the bigger side even compared to the emersons I believe. There is a video of it in hand on the blackhawk site. Pretty much a monster. The emersons will be easier to carry, and still offer plenty of blade. As someone mentioned, the mini commander is a good smaller knife also. It's still as thick as the full size emersons, just shorter. It might be worth a look if you like emerson, but want a smaller blade.

Yea, My EDC now is the ATFK, I love it. I also just picked up the CQC 13 and the Sharpmaker.

I have the MKI and MKII, but can't get the MKII sharp enough to carry. So yea, not to mention the MKI is huge

I have the CQC-13 and have been extremely happy with it...I'm using it as my EDC here in Iraq. The blade profile is the best if you plan to dig into wood or pry, but for slicing chores, it's excellent. I have an older MOD Trident, it's a good folder, but I really like the construction of Emersons and I prefer the waved-feature.
