In a survival situation, wich two tools would you like to have with you and why? I would like to have my khukri and my firesteel. The khukri because it has a good combination of chopping- and cutting-abilities.And the firesteel because I know I can make a fire anywhere any time.

It reminds me to an earlier post (~a year back) when the pot competed against the knife after the fire starter. I would probably take the metal match and knife combo still.

I'd say it depends on where you're gonna be... In the rainforest, it seems like you'd need a large, machete type knife for clearing paths, and for chopping and splitting wet wood.... In snowy mountains, you'll need a large knife capable of splitting wood to get to the dry center in order to build a fire, and to help make a shelter and build traps. From what I've read, a jungle knife is better if its longer and thinner than what you'd have in a snowy mountain area - where you would prefer a shorter, more stout blade.

Well, after all that gabbing, I'll fess up and say that it's all book knowledge as I live down in South FL, and have never been in a jungle or in snowy mountains

Hope to soon change that, but for now sawgrass, snakes, and gators are about all I get down here.

Without knowing exactly where you're gonna be, I'd agree that a knife capable of splitting wood and a firesteel would be on top of the list...

SAK with a wood saw, awl, and at least one cutting blade.

Firestarter like a metal match.

From there I can make most anything else I need.

Again, knife and firesteel. Steel Heart and one of Bagheera's mongo firesteels.

I guess I would choose a fire-starter (probably a Bic lighter) and a stainless steel pot. A knife would be great but I can improvise a blade easier than I can improvise a pot.
The Bic would be good for thousands of lights and even empty it can produce sparks (besides the trick is not to let your fire die once you have it burning).
And the Bic can be totally submerged, and once you let it dry out, it will work.

a knife and a satellite phone. Those phones can call from almost anywhere on the planet, and can be triangulated, so rescue would be REAL easy with that thing. The knife would keep me alive until the chopper showed up.

Bic lighter, SAK and my metal mug.
Water bottle and a pack of fags for luxury.

IMPORTANT FOOTNOTE:

FAGS = Cigarettes in UK and UK related countries.

sgtmike88,

THANK YOU for that.
I need to read the question more carefully, two items. Best option:

Good woman (who doesn't talk too much), and a packet of cigarettes for after. Hope help arrives; not too soon but before the cigarettes run out.

SAK and BIC.
