You're heading into the bush, for an undetermined length of time. You're taking a few blades, and it's a must that you take some sharpening equipment. In this case, you can only choose TWO items. What would they be?
I'm a newbie, but with what i know so far, i guess i'd take
1) DMT Dia-Sharp 8-Course 2) Shapton GlassStone Waterstone 1000

Your Turn...

I'm going to surprise you buy saying a cheap 1x3 pocket stone from Sears, and a smooth steel.
The stone works better than you'd think.

Sharpmaker with diamond & brown rods. Packs up nice and tight, and assuming I don't need a clean shave, gets sharp enough for me.

Benefits of the rods are sharpening awkward stuff can be done, where with a common stone you can't.

Perhaps improvised stropping on denim jeans and/or the palm of the hand could be used and skirt the 2 item rule of the OP. :D

A two grit 2"X6" Norton India stone and small telescoping diamond rod and something I could strop on.DM

DMT C/F folder.
Paint stirrer strop loaded with Veritas and 600 grit wet/dry sandpaper.
I like to keep as light as possible.:D

1. DMT double sided Diafold FWEF (fine and extra fine). It should give me fine enough edge for all field work without spending too much time.
2. DMT 4" Ski and Snowboard stone WS4XX (extra extra coarse). It's the fastest manual way to reprofile an edge in case I chipped one.

I thought the two sets of rods counted as two items. :foot:

In that case, I'd change it to diamond rods, fine rods (for the sharpmaker kit) and an ultra fine bench stone for when I need that razor edge. Gotta keep clean shaven. :D
