If you were a Marine and you were going over to Iraq- what knife ( fixed blade)
would you take or wish you could take if it would be to much $.
I am asking this question cause my first cousin is a Marine and he wanted me to hook him up with a knife to take.
Maybe the question needs to be more specific?
I don't know what he will be doing. I can find out.
Your thoughts and suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Happy Holidays!:D

RatManDu?

i hear that they dont like big knives, in the 4" and 5" inch range. the RMD is a little longer, but that is the the one i would pick from my collection.

Having been in that same situation in '91, and armed with the knowledge I now have...it would have to be a fixed blade that is rapidly deployable with a gloved hand, be mounted to my H-harness upside down without falling out. Anything longer that 4 inches is a waste of movement when fighting, that will leave any number of knives available, the key will be the sheath and how the catch release is designed. My money would be with a SOG Seal pup.

ESEE 4 style knife or something similar (great knife but i found the handle was a bit uncomfortable) with a kydex sheath that is molle adaptable. I personally carry a Turley Gasconade but most people dont like having customs over here. Most Soldiers/Marines dont know how to use a knife thats why most just use a multi tool but if you know how to use your knife in different situations and the with the terrain a 4inch or so fixed blade could become your best piece of kit minus your weapon of course in one of the combat zones

The classic USMC KABAR.

I spent two tours in Iraq. Id get him a ESEE 4, and a Leatherman Skeletool with the bit kit. Or a Supertool 300

Esee anything mainly because the sheaths are so versatile and they are IMHO the best value hard use no bs knives money can buy

Thanks to all for the suggestions.
I know my question was not that specific , but this helped alot!

Regulator is a ideal tool but my scrapper 5 and a tomahawk would probably be more practical.

A ZT 0100, 0160 or 0170 wouldn't be bad either.

ESEE 5.

Spyderco Military.

Leatherman Wave.

That would be my trinity. I'd bet my life on any of them to do their job when my life, or the lives of others, were on the line. That's the truth.

Thank him for his service for us, and tell him to be careful.

Take care and God bless. Merry Christmas!

KATN,

Wade
