A shield; circular,probably no more than 25" diameter, made of 3/8" thick hide faced with 1/16" bronze sheet, with a round steel spiked boss.

Because; by its very nature, the khukuri as weapon needs to be the principal offensive arm; it's a cutter, requiring a lot of movement (arms and feet) in its optimal deployment. Being short and relatively heavy, it's not much of a defensive arm - can't be relied on for blocks, parries &c. Thus the need for a light but stout shield.

Favorite defensive device: ( given sufficient notice ) Boeing.
 
Bucklers are fine in single combat, but less protection than I'd want if archers, slingers, and spearmen are involved. Does no good to hack and slash your way through their shield wall only to get turned into a human cocktail weiner.:eek: :D

Other than a shield I would use my old age and treachery to see me through.:rolleyes: :p
Merlin would be a good one to have on your side.;)
 
Barring artillery and close air support, I'd also go with a stout shield.

My grandfather once told me, those who live by the sword... get shot by those who don't. :rolleyes:

is this 58" OAL, ( nose height since I'm 64" tall ) MRL Ravenna War Sword with 45" well-sharpened blade. Thank you for asking.

I also have a DelTin 2143 48" Bastard War Sword with a 38" blade that I find much more useable for me.

I think I'd want a good pick or a light hammer with a good back spike. For unarmored foes I think a pair of Mallas, GSs, Kobras or Chitlangis would be good. A shield would be nice in a fight but would get in the way while climbing a tree, crawling through brush, scaling rocks and what-have-you. So I guess if I had to defend the village against brigands I'd want a shield and a short, stout blade. For life on the road I'd take two blades for maximum mobility. Oh, and a short bow and a dog.
