Sorry, but you lost me in your 1st sentence right after "sans a sheath.....Maybe it's me.

with out and missing by use it is implyed that one should be there with it, a sheath or display box, which i think these likely came with one or the other. i want belive it came with a display box.
it has a image of some one standing at the anvil hamering a blade. scrole work has 'the legon lives on' and a image fo the folding huinter and it on the other side is numbered 02xx of 2500 which does not mean that 2500 were made or sold. so i am asking when it was made as no date on custom stamped knives and how many were made or sold.
i now also ask if buck has any of the wood display boxes it likely came in...that i can get one. i would have posted but i an not that level.

Dave,
I did a lot of research on this one and was surprised to find out that I don't know that much about the knife. I thought for sure it was in an old Buck catalogue but it was not. The computer does not have any of the info i need to assertain what type of packaging it went out with. It does look like all 2500 were produce, begining in 1986. Another special project from the same timeframe did have a brown paperboard Buck Custom box and I bet this one came that way too.
Bummer is, we do not have any more of those laying around, they have been gone for many years now.
But i think it is safe to say that you did not get hurt on the knife, especially at that great price! :)
