What year did Case start gluing shields, and is this a deal beaker for you?

I think it was 1978, I have a '78 missing a shield and I carry a peanut with a glued shield everyday so it's not a deal breaker for me, be nicer if they were pinned like the older ones I have or like Gec currently does.

Not a deal breaker (carrying a 6375 CV this week) and if the shield does fall off, it is easily glued back on with some gorilla glue. YMMV

Case pins the shields on some knives, such as the Bose line. I don't care if they are glued as long as they stay put.

Not a deal breaker, and its never been a concern. Lose a shield and Case will always make it right with just a simple phone call.

Not a real deal breaker considering the cost of the knives and the quality that you're paying for. If all case knives were $100 + then I'd expect pinned shields, however the vast majority are less then 50, while still having superb fitting and finishing.

Kinda of neat when they are pinned, but doesn't effect function.

Shields falling off, is it that common?
To date, in the many decades of carrying slip joints, I've only had one shield fall off on a Queen, which I glued back on and it stayed. So far a Case shield has not fallen off.

Had one Case shield fall off in all the ones I've owned. It was on a Yellow Comp Muskrat....a tiny dab of super glue and it was as good as new. It was a 22.00 knife back then so not a big deal.

Not a deal breaker for me at least at the price point that Case knives sell for. I've seen a couple of Case knives missing the shields but it seems like I have seen a lot more Boker Tree knives missing their shields.

I have owned dozens of Case and hundreds of other brands with glued on shields, and never had one fall out, so NOT a deal breaker for me.

As "leghog" pointed out with his two links, this topic has been beat to death over the last six months or so - much like beating a dead horse.

Perhaps to deflect other threads about glued shields falling out of knives covers, shields have also been reported falling off of Queen, Boker, Shatt & Morgan and other brands too.

It is not a new phenom.

It may have been covered many a time before, but it's issues like these that scare off new to traditional knives, BFC members and lurkers, who might shy away from what would be a fine knife.
It's a high traffic site, with new people passin through everyday.

I get your point and generally would agree with you but "leghog's" last link was started 1-19-2014 - just 4-days ago.

and is this a deal beaker for you?

Jagged factory edges, wobbly blades, and dead springs are deal-breakers. Glued shields, however, don't matter one bit.
