I did Google this but still not sure. I have two now, and the older one has a very pronounced half stop but not so much so with the new one?
Was it a certain year?

I didn't know they stopped.
Is there a "slight" half stop on the new one as you seem to imply?
Maybe they just "fluffed" it some.

I still am so new to this I jumped to the conclusion they had quit because the new one has a very slight feel to it when I open the knife. I am excited about Barlows and am trying to learn more about this patterns.

Thanks my friend. This clears it up for me.

I was intrigued by this . Is the half stop a specific feature of barlows? its either halfstop or not . There's no in betweeny semi soft stop (except as Charlie says they fluffed it).
I tried my barlows and heres an interesting fact. The GEC s have half stops. The Schrades do not. The English one does not nor do the rough riders.
I personally like a good snappy half stop. Now I don't have a case barlow to compare but I do have a couple of recent Case knives that are not snappy, not even close.

I have a Case Toothpick that I

I meant to say that the Toothpick I have is a Case and opens very smoothly. I am getting used to the half stop but just want to learn more about traditionals in general as well as Barlows specifically.

Both of the Case Barlows I own have the square joints (half-stops). They were made in 2008 so if something has changed since then I couldn't tell you.

With Case knives, the use of square joints is part of the pattern. According to a Case representative, the following current production Case knives use square joints (half-stops).

"Here is a list of active patterns that have square joints:

'005 / '005 1/2 / '005RAZ - Barlow/Razor
'07 / '07W - Mini Trapper
'009 / '009 1/2 / '009RAZ - Barlow/Razor
'011 - Hawkbill
'052 - Medium Congress
'117 - Sway Back Gent/Jack
'15 - Small Gunstock
'156 - Tuxedo
'20 - Peanut
'43 - Grand Daddy Barlow
'49 - Copperhead
'546 / '546 1/2 - Back Pocket/Panama Trapper"
