This knife has been in my fathers possesion in many years and I just wonder what year it was manufactured. I would've asked him where he got it from but ironically he has alzheimer's disease so I will never know where he got it. He's from Denmark so maybe he bought it there. Now here's the thing. I looked at a chart where Buck knifes is said to have symbols indicating what year they are from. Thing is, mine doesn't have one and I suspect it to be fake. Maybe one of you guys know more.
Thanks in advance!
PS: It's says BUCK 422+ U.S.A.

EDIT: The plus is indicating 1991 but I thought the symbol was supposed to be on the left side of the number. Well 91 it is.

What model knife? Pictures would help. There are some sticky threads down in the Buck sub forum that might help you date it.

Yes, the "+" symbol is for 1991. The date symbol is to the RIGHT of the model number, not the LEFT. I understand your confusion, Buck gave an erroneous & confusing example on their website showing the symbol on the left. Your knife is legitimate.

It's not too unusual for Buck to use a 422 tang stamped blade in a 112. They are the same blade but a different tang stamp. The reverse is true also as you will find 422's with a 112 tang stamp. From a dozen years of looking at 112's I would say one out of 150 or so has the 'wrong' blade..

Just to be clear for Rangislayer, the 422 was the Valox (plastic) handled version of the 112 but like bucksway said, same blade with a different model stamp. Your knife is a "factory error". Possible for the blades to have beeen mixed up and at other times I suspect they were just using up what was at hand to finish an order.

Yeah, that's a 112 Ranger with a 422 stamped blade. The handle shape, scales, and year mark are all correct for the early nineties, so 1991 it is!

Here's a photo of unaltered models. Sometimes parts are 'used up' and you will get odd stamps. Collectors look for these, if you are disappointed sell it to a collector and use money to buy a 'pure' model. There are several outlets to do that. 300Bucks
