I did a double take when I saw this; at first I though my eyes had just gotten worse but it's real. I don't think I'd feel safe using this, I'd heard that Schrade had fallen down a few notches in the past few years but, this one just made me say, "wow".

Yes, that's a hatchet on this thing. :p
Would any of you feel safe using this thing?

What are the specs closed? I am guessing over 5".

How about axe thickness?

You could certainly chop a lot of toast with it.

You know, without the axe it would be really cool.

Are you kidding? I once cut down the mightiest tree in the forest with it! Works much better than a herring.

Dude... a folding hatchet! How could you not love it?

That one deserves a larger look. :D

Somewhere, old-man Baer is rolling in a grave.

that has got to be uncomfortable to use as a knife with the back end of the hatchet sticking out into your fingers as you cut things.

I'm just wondering if anybody will try and sue them when the hatchet sticks in a tree and then closes on their fingers on the back swing.

That's an old idea. I think Smoky Mountain carried them from time to time, cheap Pakistani work.

The kind of person who buys this kind of thing doesn't spend much time outside, if you catch my drift. Though if it were ten dollars cheaper I might be tempted, just for S....s and giggles.

Those have been around for a while if I remember correctly. I know a lot of stock-removal type axes are intended for skinning purposes, but I'm not sure if that was the idea behind hatchet bladed folders or if it was just a novelty. :o

They have been around for a long time. Imperial made something similar way back in the day. The "hatchet" is intended for batoning through joints and such, not for chopping.

what he said. They are for cutting cartilage and joints. It is, after all, on a "folding hunter" design.

I'd regrind the hatchet into something else. Maybe a fillet blade for fishing? If it was cheaper, I'd check it out, but no way for the price it's at now. I've seen too many of the new (Taylor Brands) Schrades that just plain suck where fit & finish are concerned.

thx - cpr
