I like a lot of you, collect these fabulous tools some I've made~ others I purchased and have often found myself asking inside, "What will become of these when I'm not around?" I have lineage but none are interested at all in them ("if you can't plug it in, what good is it?" Generation). I figure I will grow tired of collecting someday (you think!?!) and sell them off and I'd like to donate the return to something worthy possibly a charity. I have around 400+ I've collected and can't tell you why but, I just do love adding a new one when I can. I'm wondering if any of you that collect have thought of this and would be interested in sharing your plans for you collections.

It certainly makes no sense for me to have 79 Spydercos and nearly all NIB, so I keep telling myself someday I will sell them when they're worth a lot more. But, I can't really see me letting them go. I guess who knows what will really happen to everything we own. If we don't get rid of it before we die, then our heirs certainly will.
I watch those people on TV that are hoarders and buy everything and just throw it in huge piles in their homes. They can't even hardly get through the house. At least with knives and firearms you can store them out of the way and appear somewhat "normal".

Burry them eight feet deep in an air tight water proof box, high in some mountains somewhere that are only accessible by foot. In your "video will," explain to your kin that there is buried treasure the likes of which they could never imagine and it is their job to find it. Give them clues that they can only solve together. Make sure that while they are on their journey that they learn the value of a good knife from the challenges they face. After they dig up the box leave a note inside that explains why they are now complete and why you are so proud of them and that the knives are now enchanted with magical powers that will allow them to complete your dreams of world domination.

That is what I am going to do anyways:D

I have two sons, a daughter, and two nephews. They can have them all if I get caught off guard. Otherwise, I might sell one or two to buy one or two.

Probably sell some off eventually, what's left will go to the kids, they can do with them as they please.

My daughter will get mine. She recently asked me to make a will and leave them all to her. She is 12.

My son will get mine, but he does not like knives like I do, but at least he has about a 40 knife collection, and does like them.....I can't count how many I have.

Every blade is inventoried, and notes are there as to where I bought it, how much I paid, and what it is worth.
In the event anything untoward should happen, I have a designated person to dispose of the knives, and my Wife will get the proceeds.

I have the same arrangements in place for my guns and other toys.

I will sell all of mine for a lot and have a big bonfire with the money when I am really old. :D

Funny you brought this up, JMW...I was just thinking about this the other day...

My kids really aren't knife people, (oh what did I do wrong), but I do have a couple of nephews that love them...so they can get my collection...

But my concern is my auto collection since they are not exactly legal...(read not at all), where I live...
I can't just have the kids or wife sell them in a garage sale...and I'm unsure about leaving them to my nephews without them understanding what it means...

Oh well...at almost 54, I hope to have some time to work it out....

Hey, I'm 12 years younger than you. So, if you think about it, I'm statistically going to outlive you those 12 years. Send me those knives and I'll make sure that they have the best 12 years they've ever seen! :D

I will leave all but 2 to my kids.

The 2 will come with me - who knows what the next life holds!?!?!?!?

My will leaves my knife collection to my family.

During the past few years, I've whittled the collection down through gifts and sales to where I want it to be, pretty much.
Over the next few years, it's my intention to sell and gift some more.
Also, I still intend to add to the collection but at a far slower pace.

It's a hobby, and I enjoy it.

I can feel your pain. Please, let me help: send us young and broke blade lovers your knives and we will take care of them for the years to come. Free of charge of course.

Seriously, I'm not going to ever collect so many pieces that a son wouldn't bother to keep in a closet, so I think I'll do fine. But I'm no collector...
