I have my first hollow handle coming next week. CR Shadow IV. I'm curious as to what different people keep in their handles. Hope this question isn't too personal. I figured I would ask because no real man wants to go around inspecting other folks handles. (Although I have been stuck with that duty as a Navy Corpsman.)

I have SAS Survival compasses from Triple Aught Design mounted in the caps of my CRK's, via some clear Marine grade silicone.IN the handles I have dry unlubricated condoms to hold my supplies.I carry water proof matches, fishin line, hooks, sinkers, iodine tablets, sewing needles,an item or two more. The larger One pieces you can fit more stuff in the handles, but I have enough of the basics in my small one piece.I also have a firesteel and DMT diamond Mini-Sharp's mounted on each sheath.Well, actually have a LDC pouch zip tied on my Concealex sheath from On/scene tactical that I bought from Murray at Proedge. The On/scene concealex sheath for my Mountaineer II, I have concealex holders/adapters for my Swedish firesteel and DMT Mini-sharp as part of the sheath that On/Scene Tactical made for it.That's about all I have in or out of the handles.

While I don't have any hollow handle knives, I do keep a full survival kit in a pouch that's lashed to my Campanion sheath. Given the limited space, maybe you should have the kit in a pouch, and use the handle compartment as a place to store meds or other gear that would be ruined by exposure to air or water. Given your job, you might think about storing med gear in there, like pre-threaded sutures or the like.

There's a great survivalist novel called Shudder Child about life in Texas after a MAJOR series of earthquakes destroys civilazation. One of the protaganists was a healer that carried a small Jack Crain hollow handle knife called the MUST-Kit. It had medical stores inside. It was a very good novel, and the most innovative use of a hollow handle knife I've ever heard of. Might work for you.
