I've been workin on various things a lot lately as far as gear goes and I've just finished modifying my Anza F4 and making a new sheath for it. I want to start out and say I'm NO PROFFESIONAL! Just a lowly woodsman who like to play pretend at making (modifying really) knives.
I made the sheath based on two old ideas: Water Molding and a retention system/carry system. The carry system I based on the Japanese sageo (cord for securing katana to obi) and the Norse sheaths with the suspension thong. I don't know if it's been done but I decided that the suspension could double as a retention strap as well. I'm making it more complicated than it is but I'm just sharing my ideas. Also I needed a new sheath because I nearly lost it before because of the horrible fit of the sheath that came with it.
The knife that was modified was an awesome knife to begin with. However there were things that I wanted it to have that it lacked. So, I filed down the tip to better assist in penetration, fileworked the spine on the thumb ramp for traction, and drilled holes in the handle and installed brass tubing for the lanyard hole and to cut weight. I also, seeing as I suck at stuff like this, had to file and sand the handle scales down becuase the drilling punched out a good bit of wood. So now it's lighter AND thinner.
That bein said the following link is for the pics of the knife and my EDC. Tell me what ya think, and BE HONEST! Sorry for pic quality.
