Whatever happened to the CS Warlord?

At least I think it was called that. It was a Chinese style ax which resembled a short pole arm. I thought it would be the ideal companion to the Special Forces shovel and it appeared to be made in a similar manner. I saw it cataloged a couple of years ago and waited to see one before purchase and never did. I just got to wondering since I saw the most recent catalog and it was absent.

They were discontinued. And then, they all dissapeared. They are impossible to find. If anyone finds a place that sells them, please let me know. Thanks. The search continues..........

I'm still looking for one, also.
It's as if they never existed..... I keep thinking one HAS to pop up opn Ebay soon... every OTHER CS product is all over that place.

There was a thread about a year ago on rec.knives about the Warlord. Somebody was looking for one, and said they had been "withdrawn from the market". I asked what that meant, and the gist of the reply was that they served no sporting purpose (so to speak). The implication being they were considered too dangerous to fall into the hands of criminals.

Now, I'm pretty darn sure I saw one in Outdoor America in OKC some months before this. (This place is a huge CS dealer.) So I believe they existed, but I've haven't seen nor heard of one since.

When I hear people talking about a knife being "too dangerous", or a "criminal weapon of choice", I like to point out that most people in Rawanda were killed with simple machetes. And, for $5-$20 you can go into any Lowe's, hardware store, etc. and pick up one of these ruthless killing machines. You can even get brush axes or billhooks that are every bit as "dangerous" as the Warlord.

'Course, CS's sometimes over-the-top marketing probably wouldn't play very well in a lawsuit.

Too dangerous to fall into the hands of criminals? I've been in law enforcement for 18 years and I have never heard or seen of a criminal packing an AXE to a robbery or a fight. Why go to all the trouble when a gun will fit in your pocket?
If that was in California I guess I understand. After all that is the state which gave us Diane Feinstein, Barbara Boxer, Maxine Waters, and all those other "brilliant" liberal political types who never met a restriction on OTHER PEOPLES LIBERTIES they didn't like (or vote for). I hope Mr. Thompson can find it in his heart to reintroduce this fine looking cutting machine (perhaps as a curio?). Maybe with a different name (the Daisy Prunner springs to mind). Sorry guys just venting a little. I really wanted one.

I actually put my hands on one a few years back at a BladeShow... maybe '96 or '97... I think it was the first one they held in Atlanta when they moved it here. I had very little interest in it then, though. I kick myself in the a$$ every time I think about it.
I find it kind of strange that no literature (that I have seen) was ever produced with a photograph of one. All the brochures and such that I have from that time all have line drawings of the Warlord instead of a photo. Even when Howard at Knifecenter was selling them, he only had a line drawing of it on the page. If I hadn't actually held one I would swear they never really existed!!!!
I would be willing to pay $200 for one (unused in the box).
I posted on here about a year ago looking for one and a guy sent me an email asking $60 for his (NIB). I emailed him back at least 15 times and never heard anything else from him. So close, yet so far away....

For those who haven't seen a one, or a pic of one, here's a pic that was in an article in the January, 1998 edition of TK magazine. The article was written by Michael Janich. Mr. Janich gives the specs as follows:

Blade length: 18 3/8"
Cutting edge: 11"
Handle length: 16 5/8"
OAL: 30 1/2"
Blade material: 1/8" parkerized, high carbon steel
MSRP (1998) was $85

Maybe someone on the forums knows Lynn Thompson's email address and can email him all of the Warlord threads that have been on the forums. Even if they brought it back for a limited run, they would make a killing. Mike, Spark, can you guys get a hold of Lynn????

There is a more authentic Chinese made version that sales fro $130. I handled one, nice balance, and no wall hanger either. They are made by Paul Chen's factory and can be found on museumreplicas.com and other websites.

The C.A.S. piece is nice but, and I think I speak for others besides myself, I want the Warlord because it is a Cold Steel product. I am a CS fan and own MANY of their products. I decided I wanted the Warlord after becoming a CS fan, not because I wanted a blade of that type. How many others feel that way?

I too am a Cold Steel fan, mainly because of the quality and uniqueness of the products. I wanted one as a worker and a backpacking companion. I now have a Kellam billhook which fulfills both functions BUT... I still want a Warlord! Call me slightly irrational

, certainly no more than anyone else who likes sharp objects, but I still want one. I like the idea of the Warlord and Special Forces Shovel strapped on either side of my pack.
If the darn things didn't sell I could see it, but then you would have expected to see them all over (and at discount prices). I just don't understand it. It is so unusual for CS to market a product then withdraw it with no explanation.
