Whatever happened to...?

I was poking around on the HI site and found a couple of gorgeous pictures of some Hi blades made by a Kami named Sanu. I also gather that many of the now-unavailable YCS knives were made by him. There was quite a write-up of him and he obviously was a real artist. If it's not too politically incorrect to ask, whatever happened to him? What about some of the other older Kamis like Kesar, etc.?

Just curious. It would be great if he was still around.

Thanks,

Norm

I believe he retired from HI to help run his family's scissor factory. Reportedly his experience with scissors helped him be one of the best at the straight blades.

right, IIRC. I got my Sanus all secondary mkt, the Falcatta, YCS, and AK Bowie (old double fuller style).

I think my fave kamis are:
1. Sanu
2. Sher
3. RR kami, coming up to a 2-way tie w/ Sher.

I have been wondering myself. Thanks for the info mPisi.

Sanu has been my favorite Kami in part because of his creativity. He made the first UBE for Uncle Bill. and a humongoid special order UBE for me some years ago. Some of my most treasured kuks were made by him. Maybe he'll get tired of scissors someday.

He also forge engraved blade markings on some of the Sanu Foward curvings. I have one named Sun, Moon and Stars ( in nepali Surya, Chandra, Tara ) by the kamis.

I remember that blade Rusty- it has been spoken of before, always with admiration.
