Whatever It Is...It Makes A Good Nut Cracker

One of the thoughts I've had while listening to the story, is how the Hobbits are surrounded by a world more advanced than their own small world, that they have little if any knowledge about. So I've pictured one of them finding some odd mathem accidentally lost on the side of the East Road, left behind or dropped by one of the Dwarves traveling to or from the mines in the Blue Mountains. I thought about how in their simple life, they may take some item, that might appear special or even magical to them if they understood what it does, and put it to some simple every day task far removed from the purpose for which it was intended. Today I played around with that concept a little at a local park. The idea is Pippin walking from Tuckborrough to Bywater, traveling along the East Road from Waymoot, and finding some Dwarvish tool. He wonders what the scratches are about. He doesn't know what it is, but he thinks of a good use for it. Then notices some slight similarity to another small tool of unknown use he had found several years before. Whatever it is, it make a good nut cracker :)

I do believe that would last a while.

Hmmm...well I was going for funny, but I guess my nerd humor is a little too weak tonight...or perhaps too strong :D

LOL, it is big isn't it. I knew there was a place in my project for it when I saw it, I just wasn't quite sure how I was going to approach it. Actually a friend who is a machinist made it and sent it to me out of the blue one day. It had never been sparked until I wanted it scratched up for the photos. Throws awesome sparks though, I inadvertently caught the leaves I was standing in on fire and had to stomp it out :)

Love the fall pics [emoji106]

Big daddy of ferry rods you have there Brian. Interesting keys as well.

Yeah the colors are pretty here right now, but going by fast due to the lack of rain, and the colors are nowhere near as brilliant as they can be.

Lol, yes, VERY large ferro rod, pretty dang nifty though :) I have a collection of skeleton keys, I've always liked them for some odd reason...

If it doesn't stand out, there is also sort of a tiny ferro rod in the pic as well. It's the other similar tool of unknown use ;)
