... I seem to have caught. After decades of relying on a Victorinox Spartan/Tourist in my pocket, I somehow got exposed to Benchmade knives.

At first it was just a little tickle in the back of my mind. I saw some video reviews on Youtube -- then a few more. I lurked through this forum for a couple of months, learning about blade centering, edge grinds, Benchmade quality control, etc. I didn't realize it, but the tickle became an itch.

Then, while Christmas shopping at Cabela's, I walked by the knife case and there were a 940, a 940-1 and *GASP* a 940-1601! I walked out with a 1601 and Benchmadeitis had fully taken hold. In the few weeks since then I picked up a Mini Grip and -- just delivered today by the USPS (Bless 'em on a Sunday) -- a 698 Foray bought with Christmas loot.

So thanks everyone for help and advice, even though I got it on the sly. I expect as a newbie I'll have plenty of questions so I hope you'll bear with me.

Happy New Year!

Welcome BB.

I owned Bucks and SAK (Swiss Army knives) also.

Then, on a job in the early 2000's saw a Model 710HS sitting on the owner's bed stand, and (politely) asked to look at it closer. I'd never seen such a remarkable knife.

I was pointed to the factory website and the rest was history. There's a lot to learn, have fun and take your time. There's a huge number of them both new, discontinued and used.

I don't think we'll ever run out of Benchmades! :)

Thanks for the welcome. I've been carrying my mini grip (556) to work and the others as the mood strikes. The Foray seems to be just the right size for me, but I find those G-10 scales to be slippery. The 940 is just ... great! I've been having a lot of fun learning to handle these knives and bonding with them (cutting myself). As a lefty, the Benchmade Axis lock knives are about the only way to go.
