whats a ball peen hammer used for???

its used in metalworking to concentrate all the force of a hammer blow into one small spot.

eg. forging, old fashioned rivets made of a pin where the ends were "mushroomed" over by hand.

A ball peen hammer can also be used to form sheet metal to, for example, form a special piece of flashing to fit an unusual situation on a roof.

As KennyC points out, a ball peen hammer concentrates the force of a blow. This can, for example, be helpful when trying to loosen a stuck part.

It's a little known fact that a cat will always blink when hit on the head with a ballpein hammer.

:D

There is a ball peen, a straight peen, and a cross peen.Riveters use a ball peen, blacksmiths often use a cross peen, sheet metal people use a cross peen. To form the end of a rivet ,to bend over sheet metal etc.

The ball-peen hammer is what you can find when you are looking for your claw hammer.
The reverse is true as well....

A given object will stay in place until such time as you need it....

Its used for breaking things.

The smaller the hammer, the smaller the head... and the smaller the handle, the more uses I have seen!

The big ford tool is useful when something is STUCK. A small (2-4 ounce) peen is great for anything from freeing stuck electrical plugs to impacting a stuck screw. One is lots of work, the other prevents lots of time being spent when you bugger it up.

So, everyone go out and buy a really tiny hammer!

You cracked me up with this one. thanks :)

A ball peen hammer is almost as essential to a tool box as JB Weld or Duct Tape. ;) Everyone above has pretty much covered it, and they are very handy!

They were actually the first multi tool.

The bigger the problem, get a bigger ball peen hammer.

The ball peen hammer is a tool that the mob likes to use to smash toes of there enemys.
I watch way to many movies. :p

I have a ball peen hammer, for no apparent reason. I don't do metal work, never have. I also have a one handed sledge, that again I have for no apparent reason. I do recall that when I bought my house, my wife went to the hardware store for a hammer, and I think came home with a selection.

I do keep one in both of my tractors tool boxes, my four wheeler, and my pickup. Of course like thatmguy said, they are a multi tool.

made one in grade 11 machining... rides in my work bag... 4" shaft, 2" head(face to tip).... about 1lbs total, solid steel other than the brass pin holding the head on.

Ball peen hammer. A hammer - used in the sport of baseball for taking the peens out of the stitches on a baseball. Everybody knows that!!!
