What's a decent cheap assisted opener for dry hands?

My wife has dry hands and it is pitiful to watch her try to open her "walking" knife, a Delica I gave her.

The fumbling is awful. She can't grip the handle enough to get it open without it getting away from her.

The only solution I can think of is a fiber or rubbery handled AO.

She's afraid of losing a good knife, so cheap is best.

Any suggestions?

She doesn't USE it for cutting. It's for when the rapist/gorilla/terrorist "grabs" her and has made it past her pepper spray and walking stick.

:rolleyes::confused:

How about a small fixed blade? Mora and Frosts make a wide variety that are inexpensive and of good quality.

how about something like perrin/emerson griffe, spyderco spot ...
hell , even a cold steel push dagger...but that is highly illegal
anyway, i guess that a well sharpened SPOT will do enough damage....

Maybe a Kershaw Needs Work?

While it is a bit of a chunky knife, the grip on it is very ergonomic. The blade isn't the scariest, but I certainly would not want it stuck in me. You can get one for about $30 online.

Ended up with Camillus Blaze 3.0
Fit her best and no safety to screw around with.
It was what she liked.

:)

SOG's are great. I would think a flipper would be easiest. Kershaw Leek comes to mind. Around $40 and a great little knife.

My first vote would be for a 38 or 9mm, after that I would agree and go with one of the easy open assist like Kershaw. Take her with you and let her pick it out and you will be sure she gets one she likes and can open.

I may not be fully understanding your wife's problem so this may be irrelevant. If she can manipulate the flipper on a CRKT M16, that might be an option. I have an M16-12FDZ that opens lightning fast with the flipper and is very secure in my hand while opening. Something with a wave might also be an option.

Off your original question, I agree with a couple of statements already made. A fixed blade may be a better option, and a 38 Spl. an even better one.

Nope. She flubs the CRKT AND the Leek. The Camillus stays in her hand.

Doh. I missed the post where you stated she got the Heat and liked it. :foot:

Small fixed blade. One of the Mora's with the plastic sheath is about as easy as it gets. My wife does well with the Scallion. (kershaw)

Since it is a purely SD knife, how about a fixed blade KaBar TDI angled knife?

Fixed blade for ease of deployment, angled for natural punch-slashing. You can buy in under 3" or longer depending on any local knife laws.
