There's alot of reading to do regarding old pocket knives. I haven't done alot of it yet. I'd like to find the actual books though. Levine's, Goins. Until then I turn to you guys. I dont know anything about this knife. Got it as part of a lot.

That looks like the old logo from Dietz lantern company in Syracuse. Pretty sure they never made pocketknives. In last decades of last century they didn’t make lanterns either- just marketed ones made in Asia.

It's a generic cheap Chinese knife.
I had one just like it as a teenager that I payed $5 for.
I also had another one that was the same except it had white plastic scales with a scrimshaw style duck scene printed on them.

Would they have perhaps just imported some Japanese knives and stamped their logo on it to sell with their camping gear? I think mid to late 70s would be the right time frame considering the other knives in the lot.

Quite possibly. I assumed import, maybe Japanese. The construction seems pretty solid though for a cheapo. The wood is nice.

Both that I had were solid, decent fit and finish with no blade play.
I had one that was identical except for the tang stamp, and the other had the plastic scales that were glued on rather than pinned but was otherwise the same.

Possibly a company promotion/perk to their retailers. As said, Dietz began moving to Hong Kong around 1954, then to mainland China in 3 successive locations.
