Just trying to figure out what a Gen 1 BK2 with a full height convex grind, micarta scales and a custom kydex sheath would be worth?? Can't really find anything like this for sale to get an idea. Thanks in advance if any of you have even a rough estimate. :)

Well you can get new ones for under $60 shipped at a popular river named website. I havent seen the Gen 1's really having anymore value as compared to some of the other early Becker models. The micarta and Kydex could add a little more value though.

It's not for me to make money more like I've come across one and I don't want to get burned. About 5 hrs put into the full height convex. Asking price is $100 shipped.

Trailbum is right. Also, UCPOPO answered your question with regards to the knife. You answered it yourself further by stating the time it took to do the grind. Here's how it breaks down. CostOfKnife+ValueOfLaborPerHour(5)+ValueOfSkill. If you take UCPOPO's price, then the seller is essentially asking for $40 for five hours of work on a now discontinued model of a knife. Value of skill or quality is subjective and cannot be answered by any who have not seen the work.

You guys are right and I don't want to step on any toes. I would delete this post if I had that ability. Can any of you make that happen??? Actually feel kinda dumb even questioning the value once you put it like that sqoon. I'm sure you've heard of the guy that I'm buying this knife from as he's done several youtube videos about knives and hunting etc. He's very good at explaining things and seems to put a lot of thought into what he says and does. The knife will be worth $100 to me just because of who he is and the fact that I respect him and the way he presents himself. I will share more and get some pictures up when it arrives from Japan.

Is it from virtuovice?

ETA I would definately buy one of his knives.

I wouldn't feel dumb. Yeah, BF rules look down on asking about prices in certain subforums (if not all) but hey, it happens. Since the point of your question really seems to have been "how much is someones time and labor worth?" I think that is a valid discussion point and hopefully the thread doesn't get locked or deleted.

Also, Slapper is right. Virtuovice knows what he is talking about. The price you mentioned, plus HIS labor and shipping... Not bad, my friend. Not bad at all.

And the more I thought about it I actually pitched in more than he wanted to at least cover his shipping and paypal fees. :)

Value as always is in the eye of the buyer. I for one like the Gen 1 better since the tang isn't skeletonized and there isn't an extended pommel. So to me being a Gen 1 raises the perceived value. However many like the weight reduction and the pommel extension so they may see it as a decrease in value since its modded and no longer a collectors item for those that want to collect them all. If the mods are nice and it includes micarta and kydex it sounds, to me, as if a higher asking price is warranted.

Jerry Fisk convexed my BK2 this weekeend :>

you can whittle beard hairs now with it :}

i wonder what's that worth?

well, doesn't matter. mine mine mine.

also, he did quite a few BK5s. oh yeah.

If you guys would like to see it before I get it in my hands he has many videos using the exact knife I will be getting. Here is one of them that actually shows it before and after the convex edge was put on it and even shows a little of how he put the edge on there. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3H76iosa5r0

After watching the video, I think you are lucky to have that one, he put a lot of hard work into that one, and he did a great job to.
He needs a grinder though..LOL. I am inspired, I think I will do one of my BK2's up like that this weekend...with a grinder though!!
