What's a good every day blade?

Looking at some point to get a small HI knife for every day. Up here in CT, we are limited to blade lengths of no more than 4 inches- and they measure the length of the cutting edge, not the length of the blade. This puts my Salyan and M43 sadly out of the picture.

I've seen the micro bowie and that's a possibility- I have large banana hands, and a larger handle would be right up my alley. what other small HI knives could fit the bill?

I have monster hands... haven't met a person yet with bigger hands than mine. That being said the Micro Bowie fits my hands perfectly. It also balances right on the index finger, you can literally open up you hand and the knife will teeter tooter on our finger. Perfect balance, convex edge, perfection!

The second generation longer handled bowie seems to fit even the biggest hands. It meets your 4" requirement as well.

I still prefer the first generation shorter handle version myself, just made for my hand size with no extra metal taking up space.

I'm also a fan of the first gen Bawanna Micro Bowie.

But depending of the tasks at hand, I really like the Bilton too.

Unless you plan to crack open doors or split cars in halves. The builton is as capable as the Mirco Bowie.

May not be practical for EDC, but for heavy chopping, I wonder if you could get a custom AK blunted near the handle, and a 4" sweet spot

thanks for the replies everyone:)

mcatalfano- you know, I've wondered the same thing at times- having a longer than 4 inch blade, but taking a file and making the edged portion legal. We can carry a 4 inch or longer blade, but only while hunting/fishing and having a hunting/fishing license.

Good idea. Take any one of the smaller HI models and file off the rear part of the edge. It might end up looking something like this (but less fancy):

ndoghouse- if there's a youtube link to that beast I'd love to see it.

Ah! Thanks Darth. I forgot about that video. I need to redo it now that its finished and show it proper. The brass has slightly yellowed with age and is more gold colored now. I will do another set of scales for it soon and then a new video.

I just watched the video. That "shlack" opening and locking sounds unmistakeably means serious business.:thumbup:

The Micro Bowie sure makes a nice back pocket knife:) Got mine on my today. It's a first gen with a short handle which makes it a little easier for me pocket:)
