Inexpensive meaning under $30. It has to have some weight to it (4.5 to 5 ounces preferred) and a carrying case if possible. :p

I might be asking for too much. :D

usmc from camillus, or spend more for a kabar (same design, slightly better quality) 7" blade. the 5" us pilots survival is a nice knife too

Frosts or Ericksson, both of Mora, Sweden, make excellent FBs for around $10 -- best bang for the buck in the knife world IMHO. Check out ragweedforge for the full range. Kellam also makes an inexpensive FB, though slightly pricier. The ugly black plastic sheaths are totally functional.

Walmart has the Buck Mini-Nighthawk available for something like $34 if you're willing to spend a couple more dollars.

The Buck is a good buy. Coated stainless, hardened to hold an edge and a short section of serrations.

for a "cheap, good fixed blade", take a serious look at moras. I've got 2 downstairs, great beater for 11usd.

Givine one to my sister this summer for her camping(along with the 110 that I bought in 97 and just repaired my sheath this winter again).

Holy cow, how did I get to be the one who says, "depends on what you plan to do with it"! :) Seriously, folks have given you some good suggestions already, but you'll find them very different in size and design. A little more info would help narrow things down...

Can you afford a little more? In the $40 - $50 range there are some nice ones, especially the Bucks like the Nighthawk, Vangard, and Pathfinder. All come with sheaths.

It's not impossible to find a good $30 fixed blade, but you may have to bargain shop. Keep an eye open for closeouts, discontinued sales, and used knives.

And ask yourself if you really need a heavy knife. The AG Russell Woodswalker is $20 with a leather pocket sheath, or $25 with a kydex sheath.

I've read a lot of good things about the Mora knives, but don't own one myself. Why not give one a try?

Happy shopping,
Bob

^ Yeah, check out the Benchmade red class. The Rant Bowie is a nice "normal" design in 440C and kraton, at a fair price.

I'll second the Ka-Bar... got mine for around $50. The Camillus PSK is good too, for around $40.

ya can get a CRKT polkawski companion for about $30 or so, the sheath(s) suck so ya gotta get a custom ($25 or so) but the CRKT companion in a good custom kydex sheath is hard to beat as an edc fixed blade, is as good as anything till ya get to a bud nealy/etc, thats wayyyy higher though......

I don't know what your intended use for the knife is, but the Cold Steel Mini Bushman is a good knife that fits your size and price range (I think you can get it for around $17). The sheath is so-so, but the knife and price are good.
