What's a Good Knife Book on Traditional Folders?

I'm looking for a good knife book on American made traditional folders. I'm actually more interested in a book that outlines the various models, blade configurations, etc. than I am with the price guide aspects since prices are constantly changing for various reasons anyway. Any suggestions? I've already got the Remington Knives book, the Case Knives book, and the GEC book. Thanks much.

Bernard Levines Guide to knives and their values 4th revised edition. It's an old book so the prices are way out of date
but the book is invaluable for it's huge amount if information. They are quite pricey but if you search you can sometimes get a deal.
Check the online book sellers, there are always a few.

Best regards

Robin

Thanks Pipeman. I've been watching for a good deal on Levines 4th but so far they've all been out of my price range.

I find a lot of what I need to know right here on Bladeforums and a few other knife sites but every once in awhile I like to page through a good old fashioned book.

I would add the two catalog reprints by Schatt and Morgan, the Cattaraugus Cutlery book by Ritchie and Stewart, and the Gun Traders Guide to Collectible Knives by our own Mike Robuck.

I traded for a dog eared copy with notes, and just bought an obliterated copy from a helpful member. If I can photocopy the book and put it in a binder for my personal show use, I will be doing alright.

Good to know. I sent a couple of weeks ago for a free trial issue with the idea that if I like the content I'll subscribe. I'm looking forward to its arrival. Thanks.

Levines 3rd is almost as good, very much of it is the same material (I used to have a 4th), especially about traditional folders. It's a lot less. I got one for about $25.00

Why does there seem to be not much love for the later editions of Levine's? I have the 7th, after it became Blade's Guide, what am I missing out on?

A publisher purchased the rights and refused to fund Bernie's proper ( and proven) research for the 5th edition. They then put out a dog's breakfast of rewritten bullpuke!
Do not buy the 5th or 6th IMO!
It's been hard to trust it since. Greed destroyed a beautiful series of books! Apparently the latest ones are somewhat improved, but I stick with the 4th!

Lol, that response is pure gold, and exactly what I was looking for, thank you. :)

I am not particularly impressed w the 7th edition I have, but as a basic reference I hope its better than nothing. I certainly don't use it as any sort of pricing reference.

But again, thanks. Now I know what the big deal is about the 4th edition.

ETA: thawk, that's a great tip, I'll be on the lookout for a 3rd for sure.
