Ok, I have a friend who forever carried a Spyderco Police (even prior to "Police" being put on the blade. It's been used and has reached its end. So here is his criteria:
*Has to have atleast a 4 inch blade bigger ok (does not like the Max)
*A blade that has to have a re-enforced tip (for prying)
*Has to have reversable pocket clip (for occasional off rear pocket carry)
*Can not be liner lock. (Lock back, Axis type or Frame Locks ok)
* Perfers g-10, or Micarta handles but Zytel and metal ok.

My suggestions have been
^ Benchmade AFCK
^ SOG Pentagon Elite
^ Cold Steel Recon 1
^ Buck Strider (it's liner lock but still pretty stout)

So what would you suggest?
Thanks 4 the help

In addition to chorus of "Strider AR!", I'd like to an one that has come up a few times recently in this forum. It is the Lone Wolf Harsey Tactical Folder . Although it is technically a liner lock, it has the Lake/Walker safety lock which has been noted for it's exceptional strength and security. For information about the Lake and Walker lock see this thread and this thread. The Harsey Tactical Folder is big (4.75" blade) without being practical joke big and has titanium+micarta handles and a stout looking tip of S30V. If I needed a large strong folder, this would be my pick (Striders just don't do it for me).

Among your choices, I'd go with the Buck Strider.

edit: s/echoes/chorus/

The Buck/Strider seems like the best solution given his requirements.

The AFCK's tip is pretty fragile, it's more of a fighter than a heavy utility folder.

Sounds like he needs an Extrema Ratio folder.

Tell him to check out the MPC or Fulcrum II-D

above suggestions good, add a cammilus cuda maxx for a production, or a crawford perfigo/ralph maxx for custom and i agree 100%

I concur, especially about the MPC. I have one in my pocket right now.

I have another one on the way too. Should be here today.

Close to BR?

MA MT Socom with the tanto blade config. It's a liner-lock...but a damn stout one. Tops in my book for a heavy duty cutter, but only allows tip-down carry. MT does a superior heat-treat on their 154-CM.

If your friend carried a police long enough to wear it out,I would think it fits his criteria for edc and suggest just purchasing another one.tom.;)

What Deputy Tom said.
If he considers a liner lock, the Military is excellent, and has a nested liner lock to boot.

I guess I should clarify futher. While some of the knives mentioned are very nice, they are also more than he will spend. The maximum amount would be about $150.00 on-line prices.

Also, the reason he won't get another police model is because it now has "Police" on the blade. Which is not all that bad, but sometimes it's nice not to advertise your profession when not working.

If he liked the Police, he might like the AFCK as the general profile of the knife is the same. The AXIS AFCK is one hell of a knife.

However, the tip is definitely not made for prying.

I was going to suggest the ER too, but just saw your price. For that, check out a Greco folder.

He could just get another police or military spydie and buff the letters off.

Personally, I can't stand it when a knife maker writes all over the blade.

I don't like either.

I wish my Millies and Polices have nothing written on the blade.

The Buck/Mayo is an excellent knife at the top end of his price range, well worth a look.
