What's a good pocket carry Buck for a one week hike?

I am going on a one week hike along along the Appalachian trail this summer. I plan on carrying a Buck 105 strapped to my pack, and a Swiss Farmer around my neck. For this trip, and in general, what is a good pocket carry folder? I do have a 110, but would like to carry something smaller. I was thinking about the 55. However, I see all the other options that I have, and would appreciate some comments about the 55 and other folding lockback knives, and if one is 'better' than the others. I have some Buck slipjoints, and wasn't considering bringing them.

The Farmer doesn't have a lot of tools......I'd either add or substitute a Leatherman or something similar to get a unit that could add a scissors and pliers and other things.

Once you get that settled to give you the max capabilities, you could maybe add a small lightweight like the old Buck 444 (one helluva knife for the size and weight).

The Vantage looks very nice... maybe the avid?

I do have a Spirit that I carry, was going to put it in my pack, and not belt carry. Also more SAKs (with scissors) than I need for the trip. I was considering a folder as a backup, and something smaller than my beloved 110 that I could easily pocket carry

Is the Buck 444 easily available?

I see 444s on e-Bay.

The also have newer lightweight versions. I don't know how good they are, since I've never needed to replace the 444.

On a trip like that, something like the Leatherman would be the first thing on my list.......and I'd add on to that.

The 105 is a great choice for the big knife.

Vet,Welcome and thanks . The Bucklites are about half the weight of their bigger brothers .
Wolf, A sharpener is a very good idea ! During a week hike you'll have some dull knives . Enjoy your vacation . DM

What David said.

But, I guess you have done this stuff before. The people I know that have done good size pieces of the App. Trail became very pack weight concerned toward the end of the trips. If you aren't experienced there I would consider that advice and take as few knives as necessary. I myself would feel good with the sheath knife and a swiss army or leatherman. Skip the extra knife weight and take some duct tape....ha

110 or 112 ecolite depending on how big you like your folders. I also like the Bantam 286 or 285 based again on size preference. Good strong plastic handled knives that have a good pocket clip, are light and are inexpensive if you loose it. Get the newer ones made in USA(it'll say it right under the Buck, if not its imported and last year or prior model)

this is a chinese-notice the stamp, no USA

I must confess, this 286 which is the largest of the bantams has given me excellent service, even though its chinese, in exactly the conditions that you will be encountering. I take it when it will likely get and stay wet for a while or possibility of loosing it.
