I am looking for a new folder and Kershaw seems to fit the bill. i have held a few at a military surplus store but never used one for a long period of time. Im looking for a folder that is rugged, reliable and simple with no flahy design, although, assited opening dosnt matter to me. what do you guys recomend.

any input would be appreciated

thank you.

If you like big knives the Junk Yard Dog can be purchased for $45 now. My Salvo and Skyline $30-35 are also excellent knives. My top choice would be the medium sized S30v Blur $75-85.

For a small edc I like the skyline and leek - both under $40. For something heavier and more rugged I like the Storm 2 or the Shallot. All of these are great knives and 3 of the 4 are frame locks. The skyline being a liner lock. R.A.M and Blur are also an excellent choices from all reports but I do not own either of them yet. :D

With a little looking you can actually find the S30V Blur for less than $70 as there seems to be a war on price between a couple folks on the auction site. Blur, Rake, or Ram would be my suggestions.

KERSHAW CLASH.....verry nice in the hand and sharp as hell right out of the box

Skyline/Blur/Leek ... if they are going to be users, get the blems from kershawguy. You could get 3 top quality steels for a little over $100 or go regular steels and keep it under $100.

1670S30V Blur Black handle S30V plain edge $49
1660CB Leek Composite blade plain edge $38
1760 Skyline Blk Hdl satin plain edge $25

The great thing about kershaw is you don't have to spend $100's to get a great knife. They can be had much cheaper.

I haven't tried one, but if you want even bigger than the Blur, you could go with the JYD or the Rake.

You can get most Kershaws for under $100. Go to a knife shop near you and play with a few designs. Some knives look great, but may not feel right, and vice versa. Kershaw's quality is as good as their designs, so you'll have a lot of fun choosing. You might want to just resign yourself to the fact that you WILL own more Kershaws than you need.

These three are the Shallot, the OD-1 (a very nice EDC), and the RAM. Only the Shallot is an assisted opener

CB Leek and red Skyline are two of my most carried EDCs now. Both are lightweight, comfortable to handle, and thin (not bulky for pocket carry).

for $100 you can get a ZT 350 or 200..

As was previously stated, you can't go wrong with a Blur or JYD.

I'll throw the Rake out there too. Great knife!

If you can go with a ZT, I think the ZT0350 or the ZT0200 are excellent choices. You really can't go wrong with any Kershaw or ZT knife.

If still looking, the 1730 is great. My EDC is the 1730TCKT, but any of them are solid.

MSRP is $100, so you can probably find them around $70 or so.

Leek for light duty

Blur or Junk Yard Dog for heavier tasks.

FWIW I own variants of all three, but I carry a Blur every single day of the week.
