Yeah well unfortunately I can answer this. In prison I saw many of these things also called wicks. You see matches are few and far between so the idea is to light something that will burn for a few hours. The way it was done there was to get toilet paper and rub it with right guard (Yeah the under arm stuff) then twist it up. Light an end and there you go. It even smells kind of nice. Compared to some of the other not so nice smells in there.:barf: Hope that helps.
Thanks for clearing up that one ....I'd "Googled" the term earlier and came up dry (didn't spend more than a few minutes).
I also commend you on your openness and honesty! Many wouldn't readily "bare their past" in such a manner....I salute you, sir!
I have no problem with talking about the things I did and saw while there. The reason for that is to try and take away the idea that it's cool to have been there. It's not....not at all. You often hear kids talkig about being jailed as if it was somekind of right of passage to becoming a man. It's not.
Try looking up the term-slow match. I have heard it called that before. I have seen pictures/tv shows with twisted natural fibers that seem to smolder. Looks like a fat piece of natural rope that has been lit and burns like a cigarette. I saw a tv show where the natives carry it in the jungle when on a long journey.
Anyone remember the scene in Quest for Fire when the fire goes out?
If you take a piece of tubing IE; a cartridge case with the bottom cut off and put the 'wick' or fiber part through it,it can be lit and carried easily or snuffed by pulling in. It is an eighteenth century char source. Great program with that part in it.
