What's a Strider SF worth?

Hi everyone. Anyone know what a Strider Surefire is worth? It's the Strider that comes bundled with a Surefire flashlight--but in this case without the flashlight. It looks very similar to the Strider MT MOD with a cord handle, but whereas that knife has a 5-inch blade and a 10-inch overall length, the Strider Surefire has has a 7 1/8 inch blade and a 12 1/2 inch overall length. I've done several Internet searches and came up with zero. Nor is Strider's website any help. The MT MOD, which is listed on Strider's website, retails for $325. But finding out what the larger Strider Surefire is worth requires some expert input from someone in the know.

I don't know what they're really worth, but someone just bought one on ebay for $250.00.... I was going to purchase it and figured I'd do a quick search on them and turned up nothing...when I went back to the knife it was sold :grumpy: ... I would think that $250 was a pretty good deal...

Yeah, that was me.

I know the value of most Striders, but since this one is a limited edition model that apparently isn't for sale anywhere, I couldn't pin down a reliable price. So I had to guesstimate.

However, most Striders with 7 inch blades and which are over a foot long overall go for $400 to $450, and a limited edition model should be worth more to collectors (not that I would ever sell it).

As it happened, I was doing a search for Striders on Ebay at the exact moment the SF was posted, but there were no specs listed. I had just recently bought a Strider MT MOD, which is nearly the same style of knife, and if the SF had the same specs, I probably still would have bought it to resell, because it was clearly undervalued, especially since it was advertised as being in mint/new condition.

I immediately emailed the seller to ask him the specs, and in the 10 minutes it took him to reply, two other people had bid on it--but for a grand total of $15. Guess they didn't know what they were looking at. Since the knife had a Buy It Now option for an unbelievably low $250, I figured it would be gone within the hour as soon as someone who knew their knives saw it.

Well, that, as it turned out, was me.

I'm reasonably certain the knife is worth $400+, but, as I said, I'm guessing. I thought someone might be able to give me a more accurate assessment.

Sorry, Coach, that I snagged it from you. This was just a case of being at the right place at the right time. But at least it went to someone who will appreciate it. I've lost my fair share of great knives because I tend to be slow to make a decision, especially with a pricey knife, but if it's a Strider or a Busse and the price is right, it's hard to go wrong. Better luck next time.

On a website I found the Strider/Surefire combination for $805.00 and the Surefire M2 Special Edition on its own for $330.00. That would leave the Strider SF at $475.00. At $250.00 you got a heck of a deal.

I'd love to know where you found the combo set. I searched the Internet high and low for one without result, including both Strider's and Surefire's websites.

It's possible the SF is worth even more than the $475 retail you figured because there appears to be relatively few of them out there, which should increase its value to collectors.

But, heck, that's academic. I wouldn't sell it.

Hey! No big deal...my wife would have killed me if I'd have bought it anyway!! :D

Hey Coach,

Believe me, I sympathize. Even though I instantly knew the knife would be a good deal at the price, I still asked the seller for the specs before I committed to buy. I've already spent more dough on high-end knives this month than is good for my financial health. Is there a 12-step program for knife nuts? Or is this particular addiction, as I suspect, incurable? At any rate, I think your wife wouldn't have minded your buying the knife if you immediately resold it for twice what you had paid for it, which you easily could have done. But if you bought it and then couldn't part with it, well--that's another story.

First of all, thank you, Keith.

Now, a definitive answer to the value of a Strider SF:

"That knife is worth around $450-550

m"

The "m" is for Mick. I'm also a member of "Badlands.com," a forum that's sponsored by Strider Knives. So I posed the same question there. Well, there's the answer from the man himself.
