You must have been reading the Blem 14 thread. You can see the hatchmarks in the picture. They are forged into the blade, not done later. The first batch of forward curving blades the kami ( Sanu or Shorty ) did several variations on the marks. One showed Sun ( surya ) Moon ( chandra ) and Stars ( tara ) symbols forged into the blade, and another couple ended up being called tic, tac, toe, because Sanu put circles about the size of the end of a drinking straw into the squares made by horizontal and vertical lines. The squares were about 3/8ths x3/8ths.
The hatchmarks on the blem above aren't nearly what Sanu can do if he tries. Hope this answers your question. Talk to Bill on ordering, maybe I can send him a picture of SCT to post on the net.
