Hey guys , what ever happened to the old American pioneering spirit ? When I have a problem , my first response is not to cry about it. All you have to do is put a little effort into it.
Yes, my carnivore wasn't the smoothest knife I've owned . The lock even sticks some. BUT , I opened it up and put a little effort into it (smoothed the liners and blade contact surfaces ) and now instead of picking up my Microteck L-UDT it's the carnivore that goes into the pocket.
I've had no stripped screws , it doesn't
fall apart without locktite , and all I have is praise for it's desighn and quality .
Stop your bitching and moaning and do something about it yourselves , don't expect someone else to make your boo-boo feel better.
Mr.Taylor , keep up the good work , and thank you for this wonderful blade !

Hi Edd,

and hi to everybody!

I'm new to this forum and I never owned a REKAT, I did'nt even see one yet except on pictures (hard to get one over here). So I can't say anything good or bad about this knives. But I had some problems myself with knives from other companies and I simlpy don't get your point of view. Why should I pay 100+ $ for a knive if I have to work on it afterwards to get it the way it should be from the very beginning?

If I buy a "quality" knive it should fit a certain standard.

Just my opinion..

I currently have a Bladeforums REKAT Carnivore on order right now. Before I decided on a REKAT I did some research and there is a great deal of QC related threads, the one thing I see repeating is knives not being returned to REKAT to get fixed! Dussel has a valid point about expecting a certain level of quality. If there is a problem, REKAT seems more than willing to fix the problem. The other interesting pattern I saw was people not sending their knives back to REKAT to be fixed! That is inconvenient, but REKAT should be given the opportunity to see what the problem is and repair it. The benefit is a better quality product in the future! REKAT can track trends, and change manufacturing procedures. Edd, I agree with you about all of the fuss. These problems should be handled privately. IF, after exhausting all other means, then air it out publicly. I'm just tired of reading about QC problems. Just my .02.

I obviously missed SOMETHING here, and I doubt its worth my time to go back and see what happened.

So I'm not.

Obviously someone got a REKAT knife that disappointed them. Bob T himself admits to some glitches in manufacturing that have since been corrected. Okay. Suck it up, move on.

Now, I'll be the first to admit that if I drop a c-note on a knife, I have a right to be satisfied. I'll also be the first to admit that people often have ludicrous expectations of what they should get for their money.

When you buy from a small company, you gotta expect that you MIGHT get a lemon. It happens. But I'll bet- if you don't screw with it and make it worse, if you contact them and act civilly, if your head isn't up your **insert orifice of choice here** and you expect the world on a platter- I'll bet it'll be made right.

Right? Wrong? I dunno. All I know is my carnivour rocks.

Mike

I didn't meen my carnivore was a lemon.
Actually it was a great knike to begin with. But just like many of you out there I have become used to a custom made knife. I've carried a microtech L-UDT for over a year now.I wanted a larger TACTICAL knife. I did my research and decided on the carnivore. What I saw was a great knife that , with just a little TLC , could be as good as the Crawford custom . All fo the custom features for $250 less . I did the polishing myself and saved a bundle. now the action is as smooth as the Crawford carnivore . It's like rubbing two wet icecubes together. I have my custom and my money. The best of both worlds.

Dussel, there is in America a tendency to tinker with things, to try to make them better. I learned as a teenager that I did not have the talent for this, that I was only going to screw the thing up. So, if I don't like something, I either send it back or send it to somebody who has the ability to improve it. What I think that we are seeing her is that there are a number of people a out there who are blaming REKAT's admitted QC problems of long ago for current problems resulting from their own inability to leave well-enough alone, IMHO. As I have said, I own two REKATs, a Carnivour and a Sifu, both of which are very smooth and very tight in lock-up. Their finish is not quite up to Spyderco's, but far exceeds the level that I see in the two Benchmades that I have, a 920 and a 930. I believe them to be very well worth their prices, but, if you must tinker with them, don't blame REKAT for your problems.

Yes I am "tinkering" with my carnivore . But I do have some knowledge in working with metal . All I did was use a little sandpaper, 800-2500 grit and jewlers rue to pollish out some swirll marks on the liners and pivot contact area on the blade . As I said , The knife was great new , but it's that much better now. If you don't have the knowhow, have someone who does do it. But don't complain that your $100 knife isn't as nice as the $300 custom . That is just plain old whineing, and un-american !

I took my Sifu (the only REKAT I've ever owned) totally apart just to see how it worked. Went back together again no sweat, and worked great both before and after "elective surgery"

.

Now, there are some minor cosmetic flaws on this piece (SN1 of the 70 handgrounds). There's an area of "rough grind surface" about 1/2" long and maybe 3/32nds wide; it's in an area that wouldn't have possibly got hit in shipment and it's been surface-treated over, so it's a factory flaw. And there were a few tiny "sharp points" on the G10 grip material that had to be filed, which took all of a minute or two.

Does any of this matter?

Of course not, not if you're buying a "daily carry defense piece". A collector used to CR or high-end full-custom cosmetic levels may groan, but that's not REKAT's market.

Right now, the Sifu is the best combat folder made today, bar none, period, end of discussion. Anybody wants it, they'll have to pry it out of my cold dead hands

. Sure, the new 5" SOG dagger-pattern will have it's place as a worthy backup, but it ain't gonna be a Sifu.
