Nice answer!HDFK, Heavy Duty Field Knife, is in the encyclopedia sticky.
SDFK, Super Duty Field Knife, is an upcoming release originally for a “basic” line of D3V knives Nathan was going to sell on Amazon. There were plenty of buyers here, plus other considerations, and they (basic line field knife - BFK) ended up just being sold here on BladeForums. Next up basic line knife is the SDFK.
Basic line knives are not skeletonized and there are fewer scale options available. Still D3V, still chamfered edges, still way more knife than you pay for. In the case of the SDFK there also won’t be a fuller which the HDFK has. There are other differences between the HDFK and SDFK but both are built to handle the same type of use.
There will also be a signature series SDFK available. Skeletonized, more scale options, possibly finish options… Still no fuller.
FK2 and BFK are signature series-basic line cousins. Both of those are in the encyclopedia so you can get a feel for how they are different but same purpose.
The "Ask Nathan a question" thread
Any thoughts on NioMax steel? On paper it looks like a nice stainless competitor to AEB-L. It trades a small amount of toughness for edge retention by swapping the vanadium carbides for niobium. https://knifesteelnerds.com/2020/10/12/what-is-the-future-of-stainless-knife-steel-design/...www.bladeforums.com
I've been on their sub forum for years. But it is crazy!
