let's see some pics or links!

So, i like the pattern of the CS taipan

Anyone have a cooler alternative for a similarly sized double-edge?

Things that bother me about Taipan:
-Not made in USA
-Sheath looks kinda weak
-Kraton handle? Isn't that kinda 80's tech, and cheap?
-Blade steel? Is it as good as some of the newer types: D2, 154cm, s30v, infi?

Otherwise, I think the design is beautiful, especially the guard.

This will be a collection piece, no real ninja fighting  but, it should look the part!

There's a whole lot of history in the Applegate-Fairbairn. It's been one of my favourite knives since I was just a young'un...

All three of my fighters are double edged....

left - Hattori, right - EK M5, bottom - O'Neill

awesome suggestions.

I already have a gerber Mark II, and I'm really digging the EK double-edge, too, Infidel.

Absintheur, that is an awesome collection. Those knives should star in movies!

I had forgotten about the Applegate-Fairbairn, i guess that is the one that started it all?

Not by a long shot...:)

The Fairbairn-Sykes was it's direct ancestor (and the use of double-edged "dagger" type blades goes back to the beginning of the history of warfare). Rex Applegate wrote about his reasoning for the changes he made to the F-S in the book, Combat Use Of The Double-Edged Fighting Knife.

Cold steel did do a limited edition run of damascus Tai Pan's you could look and see if you could find one of those. There was only 500 of them so it might be nice thing to have :D

Absintheur - note - your Ek is not a Model 5. It's a Model 6 if it is factory double-edged.
(And, yours is a very nice Desert Patrol model, too!)
I currently have 2 Model 6s and used to have many more - before selling 'em to pay for other 'must have' knives.
Also have several Model 5 Eks, too.

You can't go wrong with an Ek knife. Very strong knife!

Regards,
Mike

It is a double edged limited edition, the Operation Desert Storm issue, as is it's little brother. issue. Yes it is a Model DP-6 but is the same basic knife as the Model 5. As the Model 6 is not currently cataloged on the EK website I was simply trying to avoid confusion I should have made it clearer in my post. (Actually I thought I had said that there but I must have edited it out...lol)

So between the CS Taipan and an EK mark 4, what would you guys recommend?

This is a collector-type knife for me.

I've gotta say that I'm partial to the EK now that i'm looking at them. Would the EK's walnut handle get scratched up easily?

I love the Blade Config which is why the CS Triple Action is one of my Favorite Serious Knives!!! You can consider it a folder but it's lockup is as good as a Fixed Blade. IMHO...

Just pick the one you like the best, and will make you happiest owning.
