What's going on with company names these days?

you cant trademark a word that is in common usage.
Generally speaking, all the instances of funky spelling is just to have something they can trademark.
It shows lack of imagination more than anything else, honestly.

Yes, "Qygmgs" was the actual name of the entire knife company. They astutely changed their name to Remette recently.

You probably couldn't trademark "Superlative", but you could trademark "Superlative Knives" or "Superlative Knife Company", right?

Pretty sure, yeah. Properly doing things is so old fashioned though. Why would anyone want to do that?

Some of it has to do with Amazon and how they are transforming from a company that stocked their own goods to becoming a worldwide logistics company that moves other people's products. There was an article I read about this that I can't seem to find again. These crazy names are so anyone can have a "brand" name, even though they are all selling the same stuff.
