What's going on your grill tomorrow?

The 4th of July is our time to reflect on the struggles and achievements of those great men who fought for independence and laid out the blueprints for the building of our nation.

To a lesser degree, it is also definitely the time to grill up something good over your charcoal or propane.

I've got a big ol' flank steak marinating in soy sauce, brown sugar, wine vinegar, garlic, onion, pepper, ginger and olive oil. When the time comes to put this over the coals, the neighbors sure are going to be jealous. We'll round it out with some burgers and dogs, and some boneless/skinless chicken breasts for the womenfolk or any metrosexuals that drop by to join in the festivities.

So what do YOU have planned?

I gotta f-ing work tomorrow. So I'll be 'grilling' some popcorn, a granola bar, and a soda. Maybe a can of soup if the shift goes past 24 hours.

Just for the record, Pioneer Natural Resources is NOT a family-friendly or patriotic place to work. I'm just a sub-contractor for a sub-contractor, but the company men will be out there too.

I have some wonderful-looking corn-fed 1 1/2" thick prime ribeye steaks waiting for the grill tomorrow.

But, first, we'll start with Smoked Salmon and a cheese tray with cocktails

I'll saute' some Walla Walla sweet onions and sliced mushrooms and then flame those with whiskey and put them on top of the finished steaks. That will be served with raw-fried potatos, a simple green salad and a 2002 Lange Estate Reverve Pinot. The dinner will conclude with fresh strawberries in a brandy sauce. Perfect, and actually quite easy.

I'm going to take a shot at smoking a nice brisket for the first time. In case I screw that up, theres a nice rack of baby back ribs that'll get cooked as well as some fresh hot italian sausages and corn on the cob. I've invited a couple folks over who might make it, or might not. If they do, we'll have too much food. If they don't we'll have WAY too much food. But it's ok, left over BBQ is still good :)

Sorry man .. I been there done that many time's.. even Christmas.. sucks big time.

I think we are going to pop some picanic roast on the grill and some beer braut's and use head country hickory smoke BBQ sauce using hard wood charcoal. And I'm gonna try out this new rub I bought last night called St. Louis style Smokey grillin dust..

I wouldn't mind if I was still single or they issued holiday bonuses. But I'm not, and they don't.

What really sucks, I just came off of a 37-hour shift. Got home this morning at 4 a.m.

I don't know what I'm doing tomorrow, but today I grilled some kielbasa / pineapple kebabs at the suggestion of another poster a few weeks ago. They were good. Also broiled in the oven some sirloin strips skewered on bamboo and marinated in a teriyaki oven baste. Then let them stay in the oven for a while and get dry. Just like the Chinese beef sticks you get in the restaurants. Then a toss salad. I don't eat too many carbs these days.

Going over to friends later today, so I did my own grilling Sunday.

I made some peanut chicken inspired by Thai chicken satay. Bite size chunks of chicken breast were marinated in a mixture of peanut butter, soy sauce, peanut oil, vinegar, lemon juice, garlic, ginger, cilantro and pepper flakes.

The chicken was threaded onto bamboo skewers and grilled until golden brown. Some of the marinade was set aside to be used as dipping sauce. Serve this up with jasmine rice, and lots of cold beer.....

Ahhhhhhhhh.
