Late last year I found out about SURVIVE knives and followed them closely. With tank-like designs, quickly filled reorder queues, and excellent reviews, they looked like a hit from the start. When they started selling those said tanks in M390 for under $200, they were the best value in the high-end production knife world IMO. I never got the funds together for a GSO 4.1 in M390, but as I went to look at the beauties on their website, I find a totally different site with just the GSO 5.1 on offer only in CPM 3V(nothing against this knife or the steel). Is this just a general web change-up or did SURVIVE! undergo some other, more pressing change that will affect the actual company and the offerings thereof?
(I like the new site design BTW, I'm just concerned about the GSO 4.1 and M390, this was at the top of my list for some time).
Hi! No Sir, we are still here and are going at it with a fury this year. I had to take some time to regroup, after a horrible experience with a less than adequate web developer. Failed orders, lost emails, nightmarish inventory problems... It was truly Murphy's law at work. We're back up and kicking it full speed, with a brand new site platform and fresh new designs both now and yet to come. By the end of summer, you'll see over 13 new SURVIVE! knife models, as well as some other fun gear.
For the time being, any of my knives the size of the GSO-4.1 and smaller will still be offered in a premium stainless steel. I'll also be releasing a 3 piece kitchen series by late fall, also made from a premium stainless. For the time being that steel is going to be Bohler M-390. For my stainless offerings I want to give you the very best of what I think a stainless steel should have, excellent corrosion resistance and superior wear resistance, with good toughness. With Peter's heat treat at the helm for my heat treating needs, this steel also has some VERY respectable toughness.
For my
larger(5"+) blades, any grade of stainless steel lacks the toughness and resilience that I personally expect from a SURVIVE! knife. For that reason I'm only offering CPM-3V in those blades, at least for the time being.
Stand by my good Sir, we are just getting started.
For anyone interested, we'll shortly be kicking off several preorders at once here, that have staggered closing dates. I was going to stagger the opening but I am just ready to get production moving on everything. By the time most of the preorders close, these should already be done at heat treat and headed to surface grinding. Much more efficient. Spread the word!!!
