well a while back (almost 4 months ago) I started caryying saks again, and ever since it seems that they are all I carry now, except for the occassional avalanche (I believe Ive carried it twice in the last months?)!! Im also finding that on outreach projects the sak is less "attention drawing" than my avalanche.

it also seems the older I get the more I want to carry something smaller, lighter and less obtrusive!!! I have to admit Ive gotten to where I like to carry the saks more!!!!

I here ya rev. Got my first Tinker last year and it was in my pocket unchallenged for a long time until I picked up a new stockman which is my true love.
There is something about SAKs - the compactness, the light weight and sheer usefulness is a tough combo to beat. Plus therounded ends is very comfortable riding in the pocket. Add in to that great fit and finish and quality (for the money) and sheeple friendliness and you have a heck of a knife.

Well, there may be;) but not because of your love of SAKs. I'm almost never without my Tinker. I usually have a lockblade as well but more often than not I reach for the SAK. Light, sharp, versitile, non threatening, great value. What's not to like?

For the last ten years at least I have jumped from slipjoint style to style but always end up going back to the Tinker model. Right now I am carrying a stockman, but knowing my history, it will wear off and I will put that Tinker in my pocket again.

For me it's the soldier model. I think I have one in my truck, car, first aid kit, tool box, tackle box and my shaving kit. I have others but this one just works for me.

Cheers,
Collector

I use my mod soldier most of all my slipjoints. Use to have it almost always together with another slipjoint, lockback or linerlock. Its sturdy and sees a lot of use. However it dont give me the real pleasure of handling a nice knife "with a soul of its own" and therfore I also have to carry a knife that gives this kind of feeling when it just comes to light use and amusement. For real cutting jobbs I tend to only use the soldier because its such a good built and balansed knife.

For me its like this: For a real user I dont want a higher end steel, I want a deasent steel that is realy easy to resharpen on a cheramic stone in the field. This way I always has a rasercharp edge. If the angle of the edge comes a bit wrong in the field its easy and quick to reangle it back to wath I like. This is the case with 1095 and 440 A for example but not for ats 34 that is hard to work and its important to keep the angle to awoid hard resharpening work. This goes also for fix blades.

Not sure if you guys have seen this picture from SHOT show yet, but I thought you'd get a kick out of it. Looks like most or all of the SAK models that were previously sold only in Europe are going to be available in the US. Woohoo, I won't have to pay for overseas shipping anymore. The Locksmith, the 84mm Tinker, all of the Pioneer models, which they've given separate names to now so that I don't get confused...:)

I know what you mean!!! Ive been buying from swiss-knife.com, and usually buying over 67-70 dollars to get the free shipping!!!!

believe it or not all the pioneer knives had names allready, I have the current victorinox dealer catalog and in it they call it the "pioneer series" and each one is individually name, such as the farmer, ect.
They also request that the dealers only sell the one handed trailmaster to service people (military, police, firemen, ect.).

Ive been carrying a farmer for a long time, and it is my favorite sak, next to the huntsman, rucksack, soldier, cadet, ........well I have many favorites!!!
:)

Fisherman is a new one to me. I like the funky fish engraved on the SCALES...ha ha, pun fully intended...:D

Say, rev_jch, where does one get a dealer's catalog? I'd like to pick one of those up. Although it could make my pockets heavier and my wallet lighter.

Tarsier,
from victorinox.ch, I emailed them in switzerland and told them I collected victorinox knives and would like to know if I could get one of their brochures for my collection, and they sent me the catalog!! very nice people!!!
