I looked at the Bladetech website & saw that they now only offer the Mouse in the Lite version. Does anyone know why ?

Just a guess, but outside of the forums, how many people crave a 2" S30V blade?
Shucks, even I don't and I'm one of the knuts.

I sure would like to have had the carbon fiber or G-10 Mouse. Now it appears to be gone.

Shame , I always wanted a G10 mouse . Shows what happens when ya dont pull the trigger . Short blades arent always unpopular , take a look at the boker Subcom ! In the real world , 440c is fine with a good heat treat , and FRN isnt a bad material . Maybe their website isnt up to date , they arent showing the Responder an some of their other new stuff .

I got a CF Mouse 2 back in May. I got it for $65 or $70 I believe from a guy on another forum. Wanted it for a daily carry on Fed property (2.5" limit), but I like my Sog Flash II better. It's a box queen now, and I only carry it about once a month.

They quit making them b/c there wasn't a demand for them, and the Mouse Lite is a whole lot easier to make and sell. They are having them made in Japan now. The Mouse II was hand made at the shop in the US.

I just saw that they are coming out with cool new colors on the scales for the Mouse Lite, so I'll have to get a green one to match my Pro Hunter G-10 model. They're pretty cheap at like $23 + shipping. The Pro Hunter is my daily carry of choice when I'm in the field hunting. I like the blade on my Benchmade 635 better, but it's heavier in the pocket.

They were at one time. They're made in Taiwan now.

I think the people who used to be interested in a really small knife, similar to the Wegner/Blade-Tech Mouse, are now buying knives like Spyderco Lava (which is much more ergonomic in my opinion) and the Boker Plus Subcom. I think Chad "Daywalker" Los Banos is cleaning house these days on super small-bladed folder designs.

Yep, I looked at the Lava when I was looking for a small blade last Spring, but it cost more than the CF Mouse 2 that I got, and the Mouse is much lighter.

For a small knife that handles like a bigger blade, check out the SOG Flash II. I like mine a lot, and it holds an edge very well. The spring assist is a nice feature, as well.

I got the impression at Blade that Tim hasn't ruled out making another run of the CF or G-10 versions made in the US sometime in the future. He specifically mentioned the lack of interest as reasoning for pulling the plug. I personally think the fast introduction of the Mouse Lite was the nail in the coffin, many folks just won't (or can't) pay $80-120 for a knife when there is a $40 alternative.

As an alternative to the Mouse II, I would give serious consideration to the Al Mar SLB. Fit and finish are excellent, the blade is sharp out of the box and the examples I've handled locked up tight with no blade play.

anytime a knife is disco'd the reason is almost always because the knife didnt sell well.
