What's happening with knives in 4116? Possible steel switch?

All Cold Steel knives in 4116 are on big discounts on pretty much any webshop and in pretty much any store.
They are also mostly sold out everywhere, and some places have only last pieces.

I was doing a Christmas shopping, and I wanted to get a knife for my friend who is also a forum member here (he's not really around anymore, but just in case he is, I won't say which knife I ordered him, and also, he already knows that he'll get a knife from me LOL).

So I noticed all Cold Steel knives in 4116 being discounted in every store or webshop.
So, I doubt they're all being discontinued, which makes me think...
...Are they being downgraded to 4034S too?

Is this EatingSarma? Haha. I dunno man, 4116 isn’t exactly a great steel either. If they are downgrading to 4034SS, I don’t think it’s a big change.

For CS gifts, I’m more partial towards giving folders as gifts, I suppose. A Voyager or Code 4 would be pretty cool.

Yeah, that's for him haha... I guess it was incredibly hard guess :D

The thing is, we're both kinda broke at the moment, and even cheap folders would be out of budget, plus he is known to abuse knives.
I found out he's getting me high powered laser as a gift, so I know that only a knife can match such a thing haha.

He told me in the past how he almost forgot his knife on few occassions and how he hopes he won't be running back home and then running back to the station just because he forgot his knife, so he'd like something he can just toss in his backpack and forget about it, it doesn't have to be anything special, just about enough for that day when it does happen.
He was looking at Mora, but he doesn't like the fact it can't be EDC because of the size and ultimativley gave up from the purchase.
Thing is, I know he only has 3 knives, Boker GoBag is his EDC, and as much as he likes his ESEE3, he won't really carry it around because it's a bit too large for that, and he is worried he'll lose it or something like that. And we all know he won't EDC Warcraft Tanto...

So I ordered him his first stainless steel knife, it is decent, it can be concealed and carried, it's not too big or too small, it's full tang, has a hand guard and steel is decent, I mean it's far from the best, but I didn't take something like 4034/420J/3Cr13/5Cr15...
we're talking about a knife he'll toss in his backpack and forget about it until he needs it. For some utility purposes or even self defense - this will be even more than adequate.

I see. What knife did you get?

For a small bushcrafty-esque knife, I wouldn’t terribly mind 4034. It would be serviceable I suppose. I just get concerned when it’s used on a chopper like the Trailmaster.

I wish I could tell you which knife it is haha, I know he's rarley coming here latley but I don't want to risk spoiling a surprise completley :D

And I agree with you, for what this knife will be used for, even 4034 could be fine, but if I wouldn't want to get a 4034 knife - he probably wouldn't want one either, and I won't buy my friend a gift I would be disappointed to get myself.

I set my bar at these: 8Cr15MoV, 9Cr18MoV, 440C, 1.4116 and Sandvik steels.

Edit: It seems his shipment will be a bit late, hopefully it's here by December 23. so I can give it to him for Christmas.

I understand completely. Hope it turns out well, man. And I hope your friend doesn’t break it too soon hehehe.

I think that we should have him test the new Mallmaster in 4034 :D
I can already see him cutting copper and steel wires, chopping pork legs full of bones with it, using it to pry nails out of wood enough till he can grab their heads with nail puller on his hammer, hammer the knife tip first into drywall or sheet metal and then hammer it further to cut it, pry open paint cans, using it as a screwdriver and then wondering how did his edge roll/chip, and finally - use it as a prybar to try to open stuck doors or use it as a throwing knife...

If you think this is crazy, he did every single of things I mentioned, and probably many more I don't know about.

Safety first though, lol. Assume that the Mallmaster can shatter into a million pieces after any committed swing lol. Especially in light of that new questionable warranty.
