What's in a name? The Kill Devil Hawk

I'm just wondering where the name for the Kill-Devil Hawk came from... I have a theory.

Is it in homage of the Wright Brothers and the locations that they picked for their expirementation and the first flight?

Kill Devil (Hills) -- (Kitty) Hawk.

Does this mean that the Kill-Devil Hawk is meant for flight? Well of course it is!

What do you all think?

I'll be going down to the Outerbanks for a 14 day vacation very soon, so if you want me to bring one to Kill Devil Hills & Kitty Hawk to make it the first Busse Kin piece of steel to take flight there, I'd be happy to accept one for this purpose. I'll even give it back afterwards ;).

I thought it was "Kill Devil Sniper Hawk"

Kill = duh
Devil = evil person
Sniper = long range throw
Hawk = tomahawk

I think that works way better than the first iteration: "Living Angel Hippie Parakeet"

My guess is that it was named after a unit or mission team. If so, we will never know cause Jerry doesn't have loose lips so he can keep those in harms way under the radar when they buy his knives. I was privileged to met one of the SEAL team testers at blade.

Did anyone get a good look at the hawk that the Seal Team tester used? I really wanted to meet him and shake his hand, but after a bucket of bottled IQ killer, I forgot all about it. Stupid beer.

You all are probably right. It seemed too easy. It is an interesting coincidence if anything.

I didn't realize that it was the Kill-Devil Sniper Hawk, but I see why now. I didn't watch the video until a few minutes ago. Now I want one!

KAAK, that is really cool that you met one of the SEAL team testers.

Yeah, I think the first iteration wouldn't have been very popular.

I missed it. The one in the video seems to have a more aggressive point at the base of the handle if I'm remembering right

Well, I ran with your info and found wikipedia on it and I'm going with:

The name Kill Devil Hills dates back to the Colonial era. Shipwrecks were common at the time, and many of the ships were transporting barrels of rum. When a ship foundered, local wreckers would scavenge what they could of the ship's cargo before it sank, hiding their pilfered rum behind, and sometimes in, the same large sand dunes where the Wright Brothers would later perform glider tests, before flying their first plane from level ground nearby. Since rum was called "Kill Devil" by the English at the time the dunes became known as "Kill Devil Hills."[citation needed]

Rum :D Cause Jerry loves to drink :thumbup:

The KD is awesome :thumbup:

Nice score Max! I'll be honest, when I first saw them I was ehhh on them. But they seem to be growing on me. As for the name, I'm waiting for the Kill Devil Scout Hawk (I just made that up, but would be sweet for a camper without the spike).

I posted this in the original kill devil post he was one of the first snipers and his rifle was the kill devil .... I win who's sending me a hawk?
kill devil was the name of the big river buahwacker Samuel Hildebrand's rifle .... And an ancestor of mine from my mother's side during the civil war http://carrollscorner.net/SAM_HILDEBRAND_STORY.htm
