Just picked up a 5.11 Tactical Rush 24 backpack. The thing is seriously awesome, and has so much room for stuff. Now my only problem is, what do I fill it with?

So far I've got
knives
flashlights
am/fm radio
mechanics gloves
various batteries
various med supplies
phone charger
carabiner
matches
leatherman multitool
550 paracord

There's no particular usage for this bag, but I'm going to try carrying it with me everyday in the car or at work, then use it as a weekend pack for going out of town sometimes. So, this pack isn't 100% EDC or 100% camping setup, so a mixture of both would be beneficial.

I have pretty much everything you listed. I also keep 4 or 5 pairs of nitril gloves in my pack, they are great for doing dirty work when you aren't able to wash hands. After having a sick baby accident on a road trip, I keep a spare shirt and shorts too. Also have a couple bandana and a towel... never go anywhere without your towel :) (Hitchhiker's guide advice).

Nalgene water bottle,GSI cup, MPI space blanket, headlamp, ferrocium rods

Been peekin' in my bag?

:p

Of all the things in my day bag these are two that I've found to be indispensable.

About 10' of heavy 3M Duct tape around a bottle opener/mini pry tool/paint can opener and my Spork. Simple but they get used more than most of the stuff I lug around (aside from my water bottles and knife).

Travel mug
Tea bags
Notebook
Pen case
headphones (in tobacco dip tin)
Phone charger (in tobacco dip tin)
Handkerchief
Chapstick
Opinel no. 8
Extra battery
Tourniquet
FAK

Don't carry around so much stuff that it begins to encumber you, at which point you'll stop carrying and it will defeat the purpose.

Can't believe nobody mentioned....

Toilet paper!, or at least some wet wipes.

If you collapse the cardboard in half, you can get maybe 1/4 to 1/3 of a roll to fit in a pocket inside your bag fairly easily.

Here is a video of my college EDC bag. Really good ideas so far guys, I may have to make some changes.

I picked up 4-5 of these the other day to throw in the pack. I'm planning on some kind of first aid kit as well.

I carried wet wipes with me on every patrol in Iraq. 130+ degree weather. They did just fine in the individual packs.
Yes Sir/Sargent, they were called "Hoo-Ahhs" lol. Now a days I don't shop Ranger Joes, but rather get the flushable kind in the small packs.

I always think of this poor alley cat that lives out side, and I bet the water would drive it crazy.
