Putting together a 'survival' kit for my Mk VI.
Thinkin' some type of firestarter, monofiliment, aluminum foil, needles, hooks/flies, and a compass. Let's see what you have! Any ideas or 'must-haves'?

Since I always travel with more than one kit I don't pack my handle with too much stuff. I only carry a firesteel and tender in mine. I took a Scout model that I got from Bagheera on these forums and ground the plastic handle off, it work real well.

Pain killers and water purification. As long as the pain is under control, and I can avoid dehydration, everything else can be dealt with.

Great idea! I've never found a sharpener small enough to fit either my Mountaineer I or Aviator. I thought of breaking a section of a crock stick short enough to fit inside my knife handles but couldn't figure a practical way to hold a stubby ceramic stick to sharpen. Your solution is great. I suppose I could break one of my old damaged Spyderco Sharpmaker sticks short enough to fit a handle and hold it using your grooved wooden stick trick.

Hmm... I might also epoxy a Fire Steel flint in the Sharpmaker's groove, solving the problem of storing a flint in the handle. I'll check the fit when I get home.
