what's in your pocket vs. what's in your hand

I start this thread to get some opinions on cutting edge length to blade length/width/thickness, handle dimensions, weight, and finish for pocket carry. I carry my wallet in my right front pocket, have done so for a dozen years. I also clip my folder to the same pocket. I stopped purchasing Spydercos because I find their blade/handle ratio to be a little less ideal on the models I'm interested in. On top of that, the opening hole (especially the 14 mm) makes it extremely difficult for me to carry. Accessing my wallet, spare change, or whatever else is in my pocket with a Spyder clipped there was just a bit more of a hassle (particularly with the Gunting, lol). I have a Skirmish, and it's a cool knife, but the opening hole and just overall dimensions make it very troublesome as well. The CS Nogales profile is also bothersome. The oval hole of my 806, along with the deep cutout in the handle, causes no problems. Same for my little Boye dendritic cobalt. And I think a Spyderco Renegade or JD Smith would have worked well, if I could have gotten one. All my thumbstud knives are fine, at least they don't present this particular problem. Same for discs. Although anything with a pronounced thumbramp might.
My wallet is usually ~7/8" thick (how many ones I have, but never any 50s :p), so blade thickness hasn't been a problem for me, but the weight of some of my heftier folders has at least been noticeable. Plus thinner folders, like the Vapor II I used to own, or my frn Boye, carried nicely. Longer blades mean longer handles, and my 4 inchers push the limit, I couldn't imagine wearing a Maxx. This is why I tend to avoid the PC 3" blades mated to a handle that could accomodate 3.5, I'm carrying less edge for the same space premium. OTOH, my small folders can be a little harder to pull free-my med. Voyager has a stiff clip and a small body to grab.
Now, I said my knives with studs for fine for width and interfering with me getting to my wallet, but that's not the whole story. Depending on the knife, that stud (that makes the blade thinner than if it had a hole) still manages to bite me with a sharp edge. Some handles also have sharp edges from their profiles, scraping the back of my hand at times. The worst thumbstud was on a CRKT Urban Shark. The dual studs were just a hair wider than the scales, and would catch on the pocket and open the blade slightly. Even tip-down, this was a liner lock that could bite. The slim carrying Vapor had a single stud that still scratched. The smoothest was my BM 690. Thumb ridges on a tip down knife haven't really been a concern. I'm considering a G10 Shrike, and I read in the passaround of the micarta version that sharp edges were a problem, hopefully it has been addressed along with the change in scale material.
I would talk about pocket clip placement, but I haven't experienced much with deep pocket designs. Honestly, I'm not interested in it. It makes it a little harder to access the knife, and the clip itself is still in plain view, and it's the thing that makes it so obvious that you're carrying a knife anyway.

I'd like to see how it works out for people who don't carry much stuff in their front pocket, or wear slacks often (the vertical pocket opening makes a difference to me, but I hardly wear them) Maybe also guys who clip knives to drawstring pants/shorts. And those who carry in the rear pocket instead, and how thick knives feel on the bum when sitting :)
