I picked up a Field Pack, Training, that is part of "Individual Lightweight Load-carrying Equipment" (LBE). Can someone tell me what items are stored there, by todays combat soldier.

This might not be much help since I have only had to use it on two occasions, but here goes.
At Quantico in January, we carried MRE's, knowledge (notebooks), thermals and change of socks. The contents change depending on environment and the mission. This only applies for SULE 1 at MCCDC.
Hope this helps.

Generally depends on the individual as someone mentioned. I usually carry at least a spare change of socks (in a ziplock bag) a spare cover (Marine w/o his cover is going to be in trouble), sunscreen (depending on weather), MRE (took out nonessential crap and kept main meal, etc.), and sometimes a small camo net/scarf to wash with and use for concealment. IT's really up to you. Of course the front has your ammo grenades, etc.

Whatever your sgt tells you to put in there :-)))

Now serious:

we are supposed to carry the following items on us usually, of course there are variations:

one pouch: a canteen + leather gloves
larger pouch: esbit stove, three piece cooking/eating (put together) cutlery, rain gear, sometimes also a poncho. extra magazine, weapons cleaning kit, sewing kit, shoeshine kit, emergengcy ration.
on the front: magazin pouches (four) for the riflemen
in a third pouch : folding e-tool
in a separate carrying pack (not attached to the German LBE) NBC mask, gloves etc.
in the left cargo pocket: to sterile bandages, atropin injectors, a dog rag
right cargo pocket: pocket knife, documents (we call them pocket cards)
right or left pocket: a handkerchief
in your parka pockets: personal documents, money, kompaß, signal whistle

We are also supposed to have a Pi-Pack (literally field engineer package) which is an tool and brew kit, includes wire, string, tape, nails, pen and paper, a lighter etc.)
Note: this is WITHOUT the ruck or three day pack!!
Quite a load, but it covers every need you might have in the field.
our friend from across the ocean!

Good Show sargent. You left out the schnapps (snake bite kit)and cigars (bug repellent). Seriously I would add an upgraded first aid kit with SAM splint and ace bandage. Also an extra flashlight and baterries.

Cheers,

Guns are for show. Knifes are for Pros.

Schnapps and cigar are my emergency ration ;-)
Seriously: this is the government issued equipment which you take in the field with you. usually you have a vehicle, and there´s a first aid kit in, plus you have medics hanging around, who have more neat stuff...
but with the two bandages (one against nurns, the other against injuries from shots or shrapnels) plus the dog-rag you can cover most of the emergencies. Those are the only three items that ALWAYS have to be in the left cargo pocket, cos when you help your buddy, you take his stuff, so you always know where to look for..
Of course when I go hiking privately, I take extra stuff like first aid items with me, but the question was on military pouches packing list :-)
Horrido
